Great selection of forums, but why no "Name this tune" sect?

Post by beesknees »

I am forever hearing tunes I like but do not have names for, and having to search through YouTube etc to try to find the same tunes but with the names included..

Thanks for your help...

Sure, tune name requests are welcome if not overdone. If it's an Irish tune or related, ask in the ITM forum, or the instrument forum you associate the tune with. Otherwise ask here in the Pub. You can also ask over at TheSession.org.

Another option nowadays is TunePal, which is quite good at tune IDs: http://tunepal.org/tunepal/index.php

Or you can just do the Irish thing and call it "gan ainm"...

Tunepal is fantastic. It records a clip of a tune as it's being played, searches its huge database, and gives you a list of possible titles (or occasionally, "tune unknown"). Then you can save it in ABC or dots to your own tune collection if you want. I have it on my iPhone and it's my most-used app. Cost me $4.99.

Tell us something.: Been a fluter, citternist, and uilleann piper; committed now to the way of the harp.

Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps.

I don't care for names any more. They take up brain space that I could be using for more tunes.
