May Morning Dew played by Phil Hardy

Post by greenspiderweb »

I believe it is played on a Low F Kerry Pro, I would imagine. My favorite version so far on the low whistle-for Phil's efforts, I really liked it! Have a listen and decide for yourself. Just FYI in case you would like to hear it. Again, not asked to post this-just because I found it to be pleasing to my ears and possibly to other's.

I would have preferred it clean, without the reverb and synth. Maybe a little natural echo.

Well, it's just a practice tape he made while learning the tune. Don't think it's going onto the CD like this, and he's not demoing a whistle-here's Phil's words on why he made it:
Hi guys, you may know that I have a gig next week in Northleach where I have been asked to open the concert with May Morning Dew in the Spillane style. I have never played this toon before and I can tell you it's one of the hardest things I have ever done on the whistle. The learning curve for breath control was immense. So, loads of rehearsals.

You can see the the toon being practiced here:

Enjoy and like if you like...LOL

phil.
Sounded great to me, as is-but then to me, it's all about his playing.

Very enjoyable, lovely playing from Phil. And F whistle is the magical key. It's a reinterpretation of Spillane's reinterpretation, so pretty far afield. But I think it stands on its own.

Still, if everyone here starts posting their versions of MMD, we're going to have to put up a sign.
