I'm confoosed
Howdy, new to the whistle world. Started with piano, recently took up ocarina, I'm now becoming fascinated by all woodwinds, and so I of course needed a tin whistle. I mean, affordable, how can you NOT?
Found a deal, got three Clarkes sent from the UK for about as cheap as one would be here in the US. Got the original, the sweetone, and the meg.
What has me confused is this - I'd heard that the original is for more "advanced" players and the others better for beginners... but with all of 1/2 hour experience, I'm finding the original very easy to play, half-notes easy, second octave mostly easy, (third has to wait for daytime before trying).
On the other hand, I'm getting almost nothing but squeaks from the sweetone and meg.
Yes, I've played all of minutes, but this has surprised me and I'm just wondering what others think.
Plus this is an introductory message. Hi.

Re: I'm confoosed
Hi and welcome.
All 3 should be easy to play. But you're blowing too hard on the Sweetone and Meg. Ease up, blow gently. The breath control required is similar to that of more standard ITM whistles, e.g. Generation and Feadóg, so the skill will serve you in good stead. The Clarke original takes more air and has less backpressure, and is more forgiving of overblowing.
Good luck!

Hi and welcome!
Stick around and you'll be confoosed no longer. Instead you'll be *very* confoosed.

Well, a couple of days with them, and hey! I'm having fun!
For some inexplicable reason my housemate and the cats are not quite as thrilled as I am, however.

The Walrus
What would a wild walrus whistle if a walrus could whistle wild?
The second mouse may get the cheese but the presentation leaves a lot to be desired.

Re: I'm confoosed
Hmmm. How does the order work? Why do ocarinas come after whistles? And before I get into trouble again, what comes next?
