One does not equal two. Not even for very large values of one.

- Tell us something.: I'm a fiddler and, latterly, a fluter. I love the flute. I wish I'd always played it. I love the whistle as well. I'm blessed in having really lovely instruments for all of my musical interests.

It's not Andy Williams' Where do I Begin?, is it?

Re: A tune I can't identify
Thank you both. That is it. A song I am not sure I was even aware of. I heard motifs of the tune in the orchestral backing music of a film. And thanks MTGuru - I enjoyed that clip.
I think this sort of thing may be a side effect of becoming more musically aware. I hope it passes. The film did have a potential whistle tune in it - Bonny Portmore (which is perhaps its only saving grace).

Is that a Clarke original he's holding?MTGuru wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BuLvWUzhI9w

Huh. I always thought this was a Shirley Bassey
song, I guess she's the only one I'd heard sing it
until just now.
Speaking of which, why is Miss Shirley Bassey so
frequently the subject of remixing?

Re: A tune I can't identify
I caught Dame Bassey recently on Graham Norton, and she looks great.
As sad coincidence, Erich Segal died last Sunday at age 72. I knew him slightly back at university. He was attached to our house as a non-resident scholar, and stopped by occasionally for dinner and chat with us humanities geeks. Of course, he was there as a Greek and Latin classicist. And by his own conversational ground rules, the topic of Love Story was taboo.

I just heard that on the radio. (I think the news was slowed by the snow.) It sounds as if he was a great guy.

Re: A tune I can't identify
It's a line from John Donne's famous poem that begins "No man is an island". Sadly, I can't find a John Donne muppet clip.DrPhill wrote:Who said "every man's death diminishes me"?
