Northeast Chiff gathering?

Post by brewerpaul »

Well, the idea kinda petered out last summer, but I'm curious to know if people would be interested in trying another Chiff gathering this summer.
The past ones were a lot of fun and I'd love to see it happen again.
I hereby offer our new (to us) home as a venue unless others have a better idea. We can accomodate a mediumish group (15 or so) and even have enough room to move it indoors if the weather doesn't cooperate.
We're located on Broadleaf Drive in Clifton Park NY if you want to check out the area on Google Earth.

Hey Paul - that's about 3.5 hours for me from Nassau County. Nice of you to offer your lovely new home. Been so busy lately and haven't played much; this could be just the inspirational kick I need. Maybe I'll be able to grab the "little green man" and Dowling and pop up if there's a fest. When were you thinking?

I am just writing to encourage others to post their interest in attending the NE Chiff gathering Paul is offering to host. I would like very much to attend the gathering, but per Paul it will not be held unless there is more interest. I would like very much to meet Paul as well as other whistle players here in the Northeast, so if anyone has any interest in this, please post here to express it...I would really love to see this event happen since it sounds like it would be a lot of fun!

Thanks for bumping the thread up.
For those who haven't been to one of these things, it's really a lot of fun. No real formal structure to the event. People just gather, meet each other face to face, play some tunes, check out each other's instruments etc.
Families, friends, significant others are definitely welcome. Newbies, don't be afraid!
People bring their own food and beverages, games for the kiddies if they like. Very laid back and friendly.

Tell us something.: You just slip out the back, Jack
Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
Just get yourself free
Hop on the bus, Gus
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
And get yourself free

It's also about 3.5 hours from me. There's a possibility I might come if the dates fit.

I'd love to go, but it's like 8+ hours (by airplane) from me, and a lot of money :( :(

I hope that at least we'll be able to see pictures!

My interest is related to how far I'd have to travel...
so, since I'd only have to travel about 15 minutes, I'm very interested! (Greetings from Latham, Paul) And I know a whistler in my area who would probably be interested, so I'll drop him a line.

My whistle playing, I must confess, has been neglected as I've been focusing more on bouzouki. But I haven't given up whistle altogether -- this might be just the event to give me a kick-start.

Would it be crass for me to bring some whistles that I'm not playing, and offer them for sale / trade? In particular I have a Burke composite low D I'd like to sell, and a Howard low D as well. And I'm just too lazy to do ebay.

I made the 2006 gathering, which was a grand time, and I'd be up for another. All but one or two of my summer weekends are already taken up with other commitments though, so I'll just see if the date decided on works out for me.

[And yes, I waited to reply so I could bump the thread back up.]

Anytime after July 4th, Paul, and I'd be glad to help out. (Paul's house is 3 minutes by bike from mine!)

OK-- I'd like to offer either Sunday 8/2 or Sunday 8/9 for the whistle meetup.
Again, bring your own food although we can supply some chips and the like. Folding chairs might be a help. Let's see which date works for the most people, and that'll be the one.
Bring whatever instruments you like. Bring stuff to sell or trade if you want. Should be a good time.

d'oh -- I forgot about this.
8/2 eh? .... oh -- that's today! It could be going on right now.
That won't work for me!

If you chose 8/9 I'm still interested, if it's still on.
