Not new - but new

Post by JohnnyQ »

I have looked at this forum almost every day for the last six months (since i started learning) but only signed up today! Laziness, I guess, coupled with the fact that every question I've had has been answered on the forum in the past.

I play a Feadog High D and occasionally a Clarke Original.

So hello to you all from Limerick and happy whistling! :D

Must be nice to play a whistle in Ireland. They don't even know what they are here.
And, some of those landscapes--ever get to hike and play?

riverman - yes I hike quite a lot (just back from a three week holiday on the west coast) however most times I try to play anywhere scenic it becomes to breezy to play

I suppose the main advantage (in terms of ITM) of living here is the opportunity to go to a session and listen in. There's been a renaissance in how trad is percieved over here in the past few years - i.e. it is no longer seen by (some) parts of society as being backward - its now 8) to like trad so the number of sessions going on has shot up.

Welcome Johnny! :) I've been itching to go to Erinn for 7 years now. Just never been able to go. *sigh* Oh well. Good to see you here!

That's interesting, Johnny! I wondered if the wind in some of those beautiful locations might be too much. I remember trying to play in the gulf recently after Katrina--we were near the beach and there was just no outdoor spot where it could be done.

I'm glad ITM is making a comeback in Ireland. Music to be proud of!

Hello, JohnnyQ. It took me awhile to sign up after finding this terrific site, too. Welcome! My wife and I are hoping to visit Ireland sometime in '09, maybe as the time approaches I can learn some of some good places to listen in on a session or two there.

Peace!

Tell us something.: Playing the whistle is so much easier than playing the accordion: I've never yet found an accordion which would fit into my handbag!

Don't you mean wet? :)

There's a chestnut doing the round with tourists here: Man says to small boy "say there, does it ever stop raining here?". Small boy replies "How should I know mister, I'm only six."
