Utah: A State of Mind?

Kim Peeks and Ken Jennings. Both are from Utah.

Both are brainy. In fact, off the chart. NASA is studying the brain of Kim, and a stunned world audience is studying the incredible memory of Ken, who hasn't lost at Jepardy since the first of June. The movie "Rainman" was based on the life of Kim. Kim has memorized over 9,000 books. Ken has correctly answered over 9,000 difficult questions on the game show, winning a sum of over $2,335,000 so far.

Utah, the most photographic state in memory.

But not 'Jeopardy' it would seem.

Ah, Utah, the downwind State... and the AEC said there'd be no effects.

Utah has some breath-taking* scenery though! Bryce Canyon is the most amazing area I have ever seen.

* Breath-taking unless you are a middle-aged couple from Newcastle, England, who like to take breaks from gawping at the scenery to nag at each other.

71% is probably the people who believe in Jesus. But these two geniuses are
of the minority, only 0.0000008% of the state population. Kim is just now
starting to read non-fiction, and Ken did the worst in religious and
political categories.

psssst....Wheel of Fortune is the game show where they spell, not Japeordy.

Nice picture, Martin. Arches Nat'l Monument, Zion, and Canyonlands is also stunning in beauty, as is Islands in the Sky.

TWO geniuses, Lorenzo? You forgot me!

About four years ago my daughter called me
sobbing because she'd been in a fender-bender...
but with none other than Kim Peek and his father.
While they waited for the arrival of the police (and
one concerned mother), Kim talked to my daughter, asking
her birthdate, etc., and rattling off some amazing facts
about the date, our address, and more. It certainly
made for an interesting wait.

Years ago on the show "Family Feud" one of the
questions was "What's the ugliest state in the U.S.?"
The number one answer was Utah. Obviously answered
by a studio audience who'd never been here. It's
flippin' gorgeous.

In point of fact, Utah has more national parks than any other state in the nation. Well worth the visit!

I didn't get to look at the natural beauty much, but I remember well how
pleasant Salt Lake City was when I visited (a while ago). Everyone was
extremely friendly and respectful. I had a habit of sleeping in airports then,
hugging my backpack, and this led to occasional organizational discussions
with the airport ground staff. (Did you know that 4:30 am is the usual time
for the cleaning crews to come through the airport? Almost invariably.)
Nowhere did they treat me as nicely as they did in Salt Lake. I still have
the Book of Mormon they gave me, the picture of the donors pasted in
inside cover.

In Dallas, they pulled a security guard on me, and I was peering through
my almost-closed eyelid pretending to sleep as they stood considering
me. They decided I was harmless aparently because they didn't wake
me. Error in judgment, I've been dissing Texas ever since. ;)

SLC is also amazingly clean, graffiti-free and relatively, and from pretty much anywhere in the city you can see the beautiful mountains looming from three (I think) different directions. If I'd stayed any longer I'd have got a crick in my neck.

The culture shock returning to filthy foul-mouthed London would've made my hair fall out, if I had any.

SLC and it's environs boasts susnfx, Cees, Sunnywindo and Brian Lee, and until recently Avanutria. Now our Beth is in London, so this city is that bit nicer!

It is indeed a beautiful state. I was lucky enough to spend some time at the University of Utah some years ago, (ok, quite a few years ago, actually). The stat's beauty is unsurpassed.

All the Best, Tom

Tell us something.: I play whistles. I sell whistles. This seems just a BIT excessive to the cause. A sentence or two is WAY less than 100 characters.

Lorenzo...hit your return key once in a while!

Looks beauteous. Wish I could travel more.

Bloomie, didn't realize you used to be a backpacking
hippie dude. But then, I can't smell your avatar, and
maybe you've showered since then.

People that wear cowboy hats and boots tend to vote for other people that wear cowboy hats and boots.
My opinion is stupid and wrong.
