I think Lathem just changed his mind. (cough, cough) All of you can forget it, since he is taking them back now. :D And don't follow this Ebay page, since of course nothing will be happening there. :D

You are causing me extreme pain. I can only hope that I will forget about the auction until it's too late.

Wowsers! These truly are at a great price! :o I'm certain whoever ends up with them will be most pleased. As I recall, Pat uses a fairly heavy gague aluminum for his tubes which gives these whistles some great 'heft' without being overly 'weighty'. Pat's tuning slides are also quite long compared to many other makers - which makes them very difficult to pull out accidentally and adds a high level of stability - no wobble at the joint at ALL.

These are the very whistles Joanie Madden made so famous. What do you guys think....will she bid too?

I just checked the auction, and I'm a little taken aback. I knew O'Riordans were eagerly sought after, but I honestly didn't expect this level of interest.

I must admit I feel more than a bit guilty, as I'm not comfortable making a profit off someone else's work--particularly someone as kind as Pat. I bought this set to play, not as an investment. They are truly terrific whistles, but in my possession they are as pearls before swine.

I know a non-profit organization that does great work with kids; perhaps sharing my good fortune with them will assuage my conscience.

$511.00 isn't unheard of at all actually - I've seen some of Pat's sets go for well over $700 in the past. I figure I'll hang on to my concert set and use them to retire with in 30 years! ;)

It's amazing Pat doesn't charge more himself for these whistles when he sells them to help keep demand down a bit more - but I'm not complaining. If any of you ever have the chance to even talk to Pat - let alone order a whistle from him, you won't be disappointed.

That has been my plan since the first O'Riordan e-bay auction! And I rarely play the set in public anymore, just for that reason.

I chatted with Pat when I stopped at his home to pick up my whistles....I asked him why he did not charge more for them and he repied that he did not want them to be out of the price range of folks who do not have a lot to spend..what a gentleman!

LAthem, I understand your point entirely....I would feel the same way.

That's great Mark, and maybe even a motivation to bid a little higher than planned. :D

Thoughtfully counting my assets...
