I have a question for those of you who like Generation whistles. Do you have a preference for brass or nickel and, if so why?

Brass.

It doesn't make my fingers sweaty, patinas up nicely, and I really can't tell a difference in the sound.

Brass, for its warmer sound. Nickel, for its volume.

Both, if you can find good ones. :)

Nickel, but my favourite one is brass. ;-)

Brass. I like the color and it's not as slippery if my hands get sweaty. :)

Brass. My brass Gen C is the best C whistle I have.

My best inexpensive whistle is a blue-top brass Gen D hybrid. Come together!

Like Martin, I also can't hear a difference. I think the differences lie in the individual whistles themselves, not the material of the tube.

That said, I'd rather have nickel, because it doesn't turn colors like brass, it doesn't smell awful like brass, and it slipperyness has never really been an issue for me.

Next time I win the lottery I'm going to buy a brass set of Gens, though. And I have brass Walton's and Clare, they're just painted. :)

I think most people here like both...

Brass over Nickel. Nickel is louder, but that's not always a good thing.
I think the first quality difference I ever noticed In Gens was between Brass and Nickel C's and Bb's. The Brass were just better, and I thought it was the material.

Favorite Gen: Brass Eb, about 25 years old, with my Copperhead fipple.

I like them both. A good Gen is a thing of beauty. Keep Whistling Brass or Nickel.

It depends on what I'm wanting at the time.

If I just want to play- brass always wins out- whatever the brand

If I want a clearer tone- nickle.Especially my old old Eb.

I too, dislike the slickness of the nickle.

Brass breaks in easer and I have to rub beeswax on the nickel to keep from dropping it. Nickel is just too slick to hold without it if I play the Harvest Home hornpipe! :o
