Tell us something.: I have been playing the tin whistle for a year. I have never played a musical instrument before the tin whistle.

Reviol Whistles

Post by JTU »

Just acquired a set of G, F & E Reviol whistles- 3 bodies one head. Purchased them because I wanted a low F whistle. My initial thoughts. Easy to play, nice sound and timbre, medium volume, weight is light, don’t run out of breath any quicker than any other whistle, there is some back pressure but not a lot ( say a little less back pressure compared to an M K low D ).
The F is the pick of the whistles but the E is not far behind. The only minor issue with the E body is that the bell note needs more careful breath control, but that just takes practice. The G body is for me a bit of a beast. The size means it doesn’t quite require the pipers grip but is still a bit too wide for conventional grip. Also the high A and B notes need a more forceful approach that the other notes.
All in all the F is a beautiful whistle.
Cheers
