Just wanted to let you all know that I found a great swab for my whistles...it's a piccolo flag, made by Roger Holman. Comes in
a variety of colors, if you care. But the great thing is, it really works!
I tried it yesterday in a four hour whistle blast following the annual Hibernian parade, so the flag got a bath by......spit. Check it out at
http://home.nethere.net/roger45/ (I get no kickback, or free piccolo flags, or anything. I just wanted to share a solution that seems to be a good one.)

Looks good, but may be a bit pricey for some. Also, if you use it often to dry an oiled wooden whistle, it may become saturated with oil in the long run, and no longer absorbent.
While back I posted something about a suggestion from one of my whistle customers about his idea for a swab/cleaning rod. A bamboo chopstick works really well-- split the thin end for a distance of about 1 1/2 inches (careful-- bamboo is tough to split. Then, spread the split a bit and insert a small piece of cloth, or a 2x2 gauze square, and you're in business. The springiness of the bamboo holds the cloth securely, and the cloth is replaceable.
