Yeah, Jessie does have an impressive collection! Girl's gotta have one helluva set of lungs, though, and be able to play with both hands, both feet, and... waitaminit... (Gotta stop sniffin' outta that alcohol bottle! )On 2003-01-02 00:53, peeplj wrote:
I gotta say I don't see many things on C&F that just make my jaw drop.
Jessie's collection did.
For a change, I'm speechless.

Jess, I didn't think there was a house in Woodstock big enough to hold a collection that size! At least not anywhere down Mill Hill Road!

Ok Jessie, seriously now, I'm going to put your collection pic to really good use. I'm going to show it to my family to prove that:
1. There are others like me on the planet; indeed, I'm part of an entire community of nuts (crystalized of course).
2. I definitely need a lot more high-end whistles and flutes to keep up with others in the community, since yours is a typical collection that is required for continued membership (or mothership).
Thanks for sharing. Happy New Year.

Philo - Thanks for the laugh. I actually tried this technique on my wife prior to seeing Jessie's collection, but all she replied was "just because the prisons are overflowing doesn't make each inmate innocent."
Can you believe that? Equating whistle/flute collectors with criminals...
I'll show her - from now on I'm going to spend all my time perfecting my ability to play in the third octave!

- Tell us something.: I became interested in the beauty and versatility of Irish whistles and music over 20 years ago when I first found the Chiff boards. Yes, I do have WHOA, and I love my whistles. :)

OK, here's my collection, and it reaches from coast to coast!
Here's the stuff that has been banished to Seattle, i.e. I rarely play them:
<center></center>
Top to bottom: pakistani practice chanter I got off ebay when I didn't know any better, cedar native american flute in F, alto recorder, Hoover PVC low G that I made when I visited Mack last year (I didn't tune it right and ran out of time ), transparent recorder, Dixon nontunable D that Tinker is borrowing, sopranino recorder. On the left, a slide whistle; on the right, two headless barrels from Mack Hoover's donation to Tom's party and a wooden 'croaking' frog thing from Epcot.
Here's what's in NY:
<center></center>
The bodhran is a 16 inch Halpin. Two tippers just below and to the right.
<center></center>
To the left of the whistle roll:
Susato C/D set, Gen Bb, Susato Bb
To the right:
Feadog C, Laughing C, Gen D tabor pipe (ow), and a bunch of laughing D's, several of which are still under evaluation.
Below the roll:
Andean panflute, low D laughing, low D Copeland, low G Mack Hoover ski pole, non-pakistani practice chanter.
On the whistle roll:
(top) Hall crystal piccolo in C, Susato A, Dixon A.
(left to right) Gen brass G, Gen nickel F, Gen nickel Eb with Hoover whitecap head, Guinness aluminum, Gen(?) folk D, Clarke D, Hoover trad and narrow bore D, Dixon tunable D, Meg D, Brass Serpent D, Doolin 2 piece D, Clare 2 piece D with Hoover whitecap head.
There's also a whitecap hoover/feadog hybrid D which is missing-in-action at the moment...
