I'm rather partial to Aodhan, or the Feminine version, Aidan. Comes from Aodh, which was the name of a 7th century monk, which is derived from the root Aed, which means fire.

Aidan/Aodhan = loosely equals Child of Fire.

There is also Caitlin, Catriona, Eireann. (A few of my favorites.)

The name I chose for myself for our performing group at Ren Faires is

Aodhan Cathair de Briona
(Loosely translated - Fiery Battle lord with/of fortitude)

Aodhan (Otherwise known as John)

How about Declan, we used that and it seems to sit pretty well!

Cees,
Instead of finding a pretty name that's celtic. Perhaps you can approach her name from the other direction. Names tend to be prophetic, so what is your wish for her. Heart (Crea), Heroine (deirdre), friend (Cara). Start from the wish, find the celtic names for those wishes, select the one that fits.

Also say the name a number of times with various accents and abreviations to avoid unneccesary heartship later. For example welcoming a son to my family (Marsh) with the first name Boggy, might be easily avoided (Boggy Marsh) but one might be careless and name the boy after the fisherman-apostles, Peter and James so that Peter James Marsh sticks the kid with Pete Marsh.

First off Congrats!!! Kids are sooooo much fun!!!

Our daughter's name is Chessah Maire Fox. Chessah is supposed to be spelled Tseag, but we decided to use the phonetic spelling. It's root is Jesse.

Anyway, enjoy the next 18+ years!!

Tell us something.: I've been playing whistle for a very long time, but never seem to get any better than I was about 10 years ago. I'm okay with that. :)

We named our most recently aquired daughter Iona (which is just one letter off from the afore mentioned Fiona)...

I actually wanted to name her IO after Jupiter's moon, but we "comprimised" on Iona.

Iona is also the name of a progressive-rock band which includes a fair amount of Celtic elements in their sound. It is also the name of an island off the coast of Scotland.

My goddaughter, the prettiest little Welsh girl you ever saw, is named Darby. Bright blessings to you and your new family member.

Carys, in my opinion is a splendidly beautiful name. Others I like, and I must warn you I love welsh names, Gwynneth, and Arwyn are lovely too.

Oh yeah, Trevor, Liam and Cillian are great too!

Good luck!
[edit: addition of male names]

I've always liked Brendan.
Or why wouldn't you try a medieval name from our regions (where also Celts used to live) like Floris.
Cheers and good luck

Anne McCaffrey named a protagonist in her book after the town of Killashandra. Its a mouthful, but quite lyrical I think. I like the Fiona suggestion, but have doubts that she'd forever be tied to Shrek. Darcy... very nice. Megan (and its various spellings) won't be butchered, but it has gotten a bit common.

We'll be thinking of you, Cees! Hope your delivery is quick and easy and all that. You WILL remind your sig oth to let us know ASAP, won't you??
