I too have noticed the vastly different holidays/vacations that Europeans and Americans tend to take.emtor wrote: We laugh at american citizens who return home saying:
"I did Europe in two weeks",-but what we do ourselves is far more stupid . . . "I did a beach and a hotel-room in Greece in two weeks".
The joke here is "I need a vacation to recover from my vacation".
We tend to try to do far too much in far too little time.
My wife and I did an insane amount of driving on our trip to Britain three years ago. We literally did an entire circuit of England, Wales, and Scotland in ten days. While in Cornwall we noticed that the British tend to take a caravan down to some Cornish beach for two weeks, and that's their holiday. Seems a lot more relaxing than what we did.
I work in the tourism industry here in Southern California and I'm often surprised (and admittedly disappointed) when I talk to people who spend a week or two near Disneyland and then go home, seeing nothing else of our vast and varied country. Or, they spend a few days at Disneyland, go down and spend a day or two in San Diego and a day or two in Las Vegas, and then go home. Did you see the Grand Canyon? Did you see Yosemite? No time, they say.
The Germans on the other hand do seem to spend most of their time here enjoying our country's natural beauty by visiting our National Parks.

I guess that is the advantage of up to 6 weeks paid holiday leave per year if you are an employee

Sorry for your trouble Erik.
Just wanted to mention that I'm happy to hand deliver whistles to anyone that would like to pay for the plane ticket to Europe...least I can do.

About as sane as my friend who sailed from Norway to New Orleans to buy a banjo. His boat is a 30 foot steel sloop named "Nirvana".emtor wrote:Yes folks,-I seriously think I must be insane . . . the thing is,-I bought a plane ticket to London just to visit Hobgoblin Music located at Rathbone Place to buy a whistle.
