@King Friday.

All fully metal whistles tend to gather a bit
of moisture especially when they are cold.

My Chieftan, Cillian O'Brien, and Kerry Songbird
are all much the same as the Impempe with
regards to moisture.

Once heated up properly, the fipple does not
give a problem. But if you were to start from
cold, you would find yourself having to clear
the fipple several times in the first five minutes.

I believe it is a fair trade-off against the purer
sound that an all metal whistle seems to give.
I consider my allmetal whistles as the cream
of the herd - and would not now breed from any
other stock!

Spittle on cream.
Now there's something you can't order at a cafe.

@Talasiga

Better be careful with the spelling here
or this thread could end up at 9 pages
also!!

Lets not put people off their lunch or
breakfast, depending on where they
live, with this mixing of cream and spit.

Here are a couple of sound clips of the
Impempe tunable D whistle. The playing
leaves a lot to be desired but you may still
be able to hear the whistle sufficiently well
despite the fumbling.

Have these worked for anyone here? I keep getting the message that there are no free downloads available, so no clips!

Maybe not better late than never, with nothing! Tony, maybe you could send them to Tony Higgins for the clips and snips?

I just now tried (1:34pm CST) and clicked on "Download for free with FileFactory Basic" and it worked just fine.

impempe

Post by arnie »

I just received 3 high Impempe whistles as a trade from Ian, a D, C and F. WOW! They look really fantastic. What a craftsman and what an artist! unfortunately he doesn't make tunables at the moment because he wasn't satisfied with the tone compared to the nontunables. Tomorrow I'm gonna try them out. I just can't wait, but it's midnight here now.

OK, thanks, guys-I tried again, and did not get the "no free downloads" message-it let me download them with no problems. Maybe I just hit it at a busy time before.

Thanks for the hand-holding, and the clips Tony, and showing exactly where to click to get them!

I like Ian's Bb that I have very much, and his D sounds like it would be along the same lines in tonal quality, but probably sounds better in person than a quick recording of it will.

Arnie, is that a low F that Ian made? I was hoping he was working on some low whistles by now! I do understand him not wanting to compromise the tone to make it tunable, as there can be quite a difference in tone sometimes between the two types of whistles. Hopefully he'll work that out too, with a good design that doesn't rob them of much tone to bring us some tunable whistles too.

But, at Ian's prices, these are a great deal as is!

I was talking to Ian just recently, and he tells me
that he has a completly new design for Low Whistles,
but he is not ready for production just yet.

I am really looking forward to seeing, and hearing,
and playing one of these in due time.

Ian is indeed a superb craftsman and a complete
gentleman in his dealings with others.

Thanks, Tony, that's good news that Ian at least has the design for the low whistles, and I would like to get my hands on one myself. They should be good!

Agreed-craftsmanship is top notch as well as his demeanor towards people-a very postive and friendly person to do business with, and always a pleasure.

Impempe Whistle Pictures

Post by arnie »

I just tried my new Impempe whistles. A beautiful bright sound! So bright, and like magic, soft and loud enough at the same time, I think the focusing of the sound does it. This is what I needed: being able to play at home without getting into trouble with wife and neighbours and at the same time being able to play in my band.
