Happy, Happy Birthday Redwolf!
What a wonderful surprise from your, Sweetie!
You've inspired me to share - yesterday was my birthday...43, too! Hmmm...if you were born in Annapolis MD that would be really spooky.
My surprise was waking up to an email from Bill Whedon letting me know that I won one of his lovely SunSingers in a raffle for Alcott. Then my own Sweetie unveiled his surprise on the computer - a set of whistle classes from Scoiltrad. He knows very little about whistles and he found it all on his own, scouring the internet in secret.
We're a couple of lucky whistle chicks!
Again, Happy Birthday!
Peace,
Fran

I suspect blind and toothless may not be optimum for good whistle playing...but then again...

Yep, we're definitely lucky whistle chicks! (I like that phrase! )

Congrats, Fran and Redwolf!franfriel wrote:My surprise was waking up to an email from Bill Whedon letting me know that I won one of his lovely SunSingers in a raffle for Alcott.
My birthday present to myself this year (my share of the tax refund) was a Serpent SunSinger A. I love it - good tone, good volume, low enough to have that "low whistle" feel, but still responsive enough to be played fast if I feel like it.
My wife told me "I know you want a whistle, but unless you tell me exactly what you want I might order the wrong one". Her solution: tell me to order the whistle I want the most, then buy a small gift to go along with it.
Even when you *know* what's inside the package, the feeling of anticipation as you open it is wonderful.

Emmline,
'61 was indeed a very good year.
I grew up in Pasadena and went to school at Wroxeter-on-Severn in Severn MD with all the Navy "brats", just across the river from Annapolis. We'd watch the rain come across the Severn River in sheets until it hit the shore. A very interesting sight.
I ended up marrying a musician who got a permanent gig at West Point. I felt like a traitor for many years. But my daughter was born at West Point so I finally had to change my affiliation...but my heart is still with the Navy during the big game.
I love Annapolis...and I miss the MD seafood! Steamed crabs, oh my goodness...
Be sure to remind us in December so we can sing Happy Birthday to you!
Peace,
Fran

Do your kids know the Hackmann kids...also at SPHS. Tim plays football and is a junior this year. Leah (soccer) and Greg graduated (music - sang Brandy in a sailor suit at the big school music extravaganza) . My brother's kids.
I've visited the Mansion. So sad...that was truly a gorgeous campus at one time. Long story to its demise but such is life. It was a fantastic place to go to school.
It would be fun to sit by the river there and play the whistle. I wonder if we sat on opposite sides of the Severn if we could hear each other play. How about dueling whistles...da, da, da, dat, da....
Peace,
Fran
