CP: 15 Carols Arranged for 2 Tin Whistles, Guitar & Piano

Post by Blayne Chastain »

Really excited to share with you a new publication that friend & pianist/composer Peter Romero & I have just completed...

Emerald Duets: Christmas, vol. 1

15 classic Christmas carols arranged for 2 melody instruments, guitar & piano. Suitable for the D tin whistle and Irish flute. Audio tracks included.

Recording the demo tracks was tons of fun! Played with about 30k worth of amazing mics (Neumanns & the like) at UNC's recording studio. My good friend & video ninja Phil Van Drunen put together a "Behind the Scenes" video piece on it as well.

It's being released as an eBook/.mp3 Audio combo and available at Whistle & Drum. Visit www.EmeraldDuets.com for more info including audio samples and the video!

Blayne,

When it says it's arranged for two melody intrsuments, does that mean if I wanted to play solo Irish flute, the sheet music would be lacking for that purpose? Thanks.

John,

Good question. No, the second melody line is simply the harmony. Below is a snippet from the preface.

"While you are welcome to play the arrangements exactly as written, with all four instruments playing the entire song, we would like to encourage your creativity as well. The songs are meant to be repeated more than once, and on each repeat you can use different combinations of parts. For example, you might try playing a song through once with only guitar and melody, and then the second time through add the piano and harmony. Or start with the bare piano accompaniment as a prelude and then add one part at a time in a slow crescendo. Pianists who enjoy improvising can use Peter's piano arrangements as a framework to build on as they see fit."

Best,

Totally sold! My husband and I are wanting to bring a new tradition to our family for Christmas with playing tunes. This will make it possible! Thanks!

Tell us something.: I became interested in the beauty and versatility of Irish whistles and music over 20 years ago when I first found the Chiff boards. Yes, I do have WHOA, and I love my whistles. :)
