F# (F-sharp) hole on Bb whistle?

Post by caedmon »

My apologies if this has been asked, but the search facility doesn't recognize "F#" as a valid search term, and no hits for "F-sharp" appeared.

Has anyone added an F# hole to a Bb whistle?

Wouldn't that be a G# hole? (Assuming you mean the standard thumb-hole arrangement).

No, I mean specifically an F# thumb hole. It would be in an odd place compared to most thumb holes, I know.

I guess you mean the equivalent of an A#/Bb vent hole in D fingering?

Yes.

From previous messages, people have added a thumb hole at the top for like a c-natural on D whistles. But what about a thumb hole down 1 whole step?

Just thinking out loud.

Just as well that it wasn't for me because I found the arrangement very uncomfortable. The customer was used to playing in that particular mode and was delighted!
