Hi, I just found this site from a chance remark in a post on a mandolin forum. I've been playing the tinwhistle since age 9. A schoolteacher decided our class needed a musical influence in our lives. He taught 50 wild boys the tinwhistle and guitar - there were only a handful who could afford a guitar. I couldn't even afford a tinwhistle so I practiced the fingerings on my pen while pretending to be reading - the class was split in two with those not owning whistles at the back who had to read a book quietly... On my 9th birthday I bought a cheap flagolet and I was off and running. On my tenth birthday I leapfrogged to my first Generation tinwhistle - I still use Generations as my mainstay. I've since expanded my whistles to include Chieftan Lows and Susato Lows, and am always looking for something to satisfy my WAS (Whistle Acquisition Syndrome). Here's a pic of my collection...

Re: Hello!
Can other people see this, or does the mandolin cafe have an image blocker?
And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')

Re: Hello!
Welcome and a nice set of whistles you have - not so invisible
I wish I had had a teacher who had taken time out to teach whistle to 50 of us - rugby coaching seemed to have more energy burning ability I think.

Re: Hello!
Lucky you. Hey, what kind of songs did you play on whistles at that age? Where did you grow up? Who in the heck wants to teach of class of 50 boys? My money is on Catholic School or a reformatory but a reformatory would have been required to buy all the boys whistles.
