I just thought I'd introduce myself to you all before launching myself at the threads. ;)
I'm a sixteen year old girl, the eldest of soon-to-be seven kids and home schooled. I've always wanted to learn to play an instrument, but I never could get the hang of making my hands do two separate things, like the guitar or piano.
I got a 'Old Blind Dogs' CD from the library and I heard the most amazing sound... the tinwhistle :D.
I researched online before getting one. Mines a Clarke Sweetone D. I'm hoping to eventually graduate to a low D. I also teach myself.
On Easter I had the chance to show my relatives the two songs I learned, 'Rainy Day' at
TheWhistleShop and 'Star of County Down' at BrotherSteves (but come to find out, it seems a little different then the one at Whistle This!).
Right now I'm working on The Dawning of the Day (by watching Ryan Duns :D)
Ah, I'm rambling... :P
Anyway, I hope to get to know you all!

Welcome to the wonderful world of whistles! :)
but come to find out, it seems a little different then the one at Whistle This!
There are often more than one way to play a tune; some versions are slightly different than others. These are called "settings" of the tune.

A lot of times you can have a good idea of who a person learned a tune from by the setting of the tune that they play.

And welcome to the Chiffboard!

You are so lucky to run across the whistle at such a young age. I learned to play the whistle as an old man and I know how much the whistle has changed my life already. I wonder what my life would have been like if I had a whistle at your age.

How are the family members and pets enjoying your whistle?

Welcome. This is a great instrument. I mostly play flute but I like to take out my whistles every now and then.

For me the magic is just beginning after a year of beginnerhood. I'm able to learn tunes just by hearing them more and more, and some people actually think I'm pretty good. It's so rewarding.

Welcome and keep coming back!

Welcome indeed!
You can't find a better instrument than a pennywhistle for relative ease of learning and huge satisfaction. It can take you in many wonderful directions. Just wait 'til you start playing with other people. You're in for a lot of fun..

Is she allowed in the pub if she's only sixteen? Ach, sure it's poststructural. With a bit of luck the moderators won't card you.

Hello there Meadow! Star of the County Down, eh? Nice tune!

Thanks so much for the warm welcome! :D I think

You are so lucky to run across the whistle at such a young age...
I am lucky indeed :D. I'm so glad I've taken an interest in my ancestry and, by doing that, discovering the tinwhistle.
How are the family members and pets enjoying your whistle?
My pets don't seem to mind too much, but the only one allowed in the house is my dog :D. My siblings tell me to shut up sometimes... thats when I go in my room and play. I've been playing in the car too :D.

I figured out how to play 'Mr. Tumnus's Song' (from the recent Narnia movie) while at my friends house. Took a bit, but I got almost all of it. :D

Thanks again!
