Can't find a whistle version - but how about Neil Gow's Lament for his Second Wife.

Ignore the sour grapes guys. If she doesn't like your whistling, then you might want to find another girl. If your passion for your music doesn't appeal to her, it is doomed from the start.

I think Trip to Pakistan is Scottish.
I think you shouldn't play any whistle lesser than a Bb. Size does matter I'm afraid. At least the romance factor seems to improve the bigger the whistle.

I got my first whistle in 1985 and when my wife (from Kilmarnock, Scotland) left me, she gave my whistle playing as one of the reasons she left me. She said that it made her homesick.
She went to England and lived close to her sister, but after she died and the subway was bombed (the bombers lived 8 miles from her) and she needed some medical work done (the health service put her on a 1 year waiting list for a colonoscopy), she returned to the USA.

I think this expresses a lot of wisdom.anniemcu wrote:Ignore the sour grapes guys. If she doesn't like your whistling, then you might want to find another girl. If your passion for your music doesn't appeal to her, it is doomed from the start.
If she doesn't like the sound of the whistle, chances are further exposure is only going to make her like it less.
If you're a musician, then you have to play. If you give it up or limit it for her, you will resent her for it no matter how much you may think you won't.
Just my $.02.

Yeah, well I'm no professional musican, but I'm definitely passionate about playing my music, (ITM) and I wouldn't give it up for no woman. I would probably limit my playing time just to be curtious, since I play waaaaaaay too much as it is!! There is such a thing as compromise...
But I would hope there's more to relationships then just your whistling.... If she likes it, awesome. If not, feck 'er. (or you need lessons one of the two...)

- Tell us something.: I play whistles. I sell whistles. This seems just a BIT excessive to the cause. A sentence or two is WAY less than 100 characters.
Decent idea, but a personal performance is still better and more romantic.brianormond wrote:-Put on a "Cherish The Ladies" CD and let Joanie do the hard work, knowing it'll be played beautifully.
Not a good idea. Lying to the person you are trying to impress is NEVER a good idea.brianormond wrote:Tell your intended Joanie was booked to appear but was called away suddenly to a far-away whistle crisis and left the CD as consolation.
-Your sweetie won't buy it but may (or may not) appreciate the attempt to please. If it doesn't work its not for fault of the music.

Funny, isn't it. People now think nothing of dropping over a hundred bucks at a fine restaurant, but if you drop the same thing for a high-end whistle that lasts forever, they're horrified.Boody wrote:Hmmm, maybe a Bb whistle? They aren't so shrill as D's so maybe she might like it more. You can get a generation Bb cheap and they are nice.
In my experience, most people I try to share music with end up appalled at all the money I spend on them and other instruments and I don't even have any of the expensive ones

Exactly. And, in fact, I can't believe there's anyone who can listen for hours to my whistle without getting mad - if he's (she's) not a musician him(her)self.anniemcu wrote:Ignore the sour grapes guys. I wish I could find a girl with a violin to fall in love with :)

Also, you could mention that the length of the whistle is not important: it's how well you play it that counts...ElPollo wrote:Anstapa wrote:You could demonstrate how you tonque whistle while playingI was of the impression that they're of equal importance?Key_of_D wrote:I find the fingering more important...
