As you can see "inquiring minds want to know" about you and your whistles. The pictures you show on eBay look great. What can you share with us about how you got into making these whistles? What are your influences in designing them? You know, the usual chit-chat.

It's not everyday that a "new" maker pops up.

Well where to start, I'm a 40 year old labourer from a little village called Towrang, near Goulburn in New South Wales Australia, and was introduced to the Irish Whistle by my wife some three years ago and have been infatuated by the simple beauty of the instrument ever since. Being a life long lover of timber and wood turning it wasn't long before I just had to have a go at building one, and after scouring the web for as much information i Could find I took the plunge and invested a considerable some in equipment and began what has been an enthralling hobby. Basically i'm a self taught player and whistlesmith with a recently discovered thoroughly unhealthy passion for both! I believe my skill with woodworking to be much better then my ability to play, and agree whole heartedly with Ben's comments on the audio clips I sent him. I own a Thin weasel D in Blackwood and as you have all guessed it is the inspiration behind my design. I am wanting to specialise in making whistles out of the enormous range of super dense native timbers we have here in Australia, and a life time as a wood addict has given me access to some of the hardest native Australian timbers to find so I am hoping to produce some truly unique whistles overtime. Any way thanks again for your interest and i'll keep in touch. Cheers Brad.

well glad to have you here, and my advice is start a whistle tour... and let some people on here try your whistles and write reviews if it has what it takes to be a great whistle you will be having more orders or more sales in no time at all.

It is hard for whistlers to buy something relativly new to the market when little is know about them, there are so many options as it is right now that you need to step your foot in the ring and put your product up to some trial.

I would say start a tour of a few well known people, you could even ask a moderator of some people that would be good to offer the chance too... then just send the whistle to the first person and they will pass it on to the next so on and so forth till it is returned to you, or you can offer somone on the tour to buy it if they like.

Well wish you the best of luck and hope you stick around awhile!
But since it falls unto my lot that I should go and you should not, I'll gently rise and softly call, goodnight and joy be with you all.

I don't know if you really need to talk to the moderators to get a tour underway. Anyone know? Sure wouldn't hurt though. Tours are pretty much self-guided and regulated by the folks taking part. I'd love to try one of your whistles. Usually the maker provides a whistle. A finite number of folks sign up to try the whistle and in turn write a review or post their impressions. The tourists exchange addresses and mail the instrument around until everyone has checked in. Then it comes back to the maker , unless someone can't live without it and they buy the whistle. Terry McGee may have originated the concept with his roving ambassador flute. Take a look at a couple that have recently toured.

It's a great way to gather feedback and get some exposure.

Thanks for your offer feadoggie and i'd love to take you up on it. Mitch from whistles of Oz has recently approached me for some samples to display at a show case of Australian whistle makers and i am in the process of finishing a couple of whistles at the moment, so'll wait and see the fate of the whistles i have listed on ebay, and Mitchs requirements, and i'll mail a sample to you. What would be the address i should send it to?

Feadoggie...

I just ment that being new to the board he could ask for some people who would write reviews that would be well trusted... Sure on a tour any one can sign up but if you really want to get intrest in a product you need a credible source of information....

If joe schmo writes a review I am going to take it less serious than if a reputable player reviews the whistle. And you do not need moderators opinions or such.. I was making it noted it would be a good source if he wanted to figure out who would give him a credible review... being new and not knowing people.

Anyways though looks like you pointed him in the right direction :)

So good luck again and I can't wait to hear what has to be said.
