In my long-past youth I have seen, and even tried playing some. They are just no good. The conical bore can, and is attempted, but there is no reasonable way to replicats the really complex multiple-conical-cylindrical-sometimes even reverse-conical bores of relly good recorders. Or, rather , it is possible to do the engineering, but it would end up more expensive than the wooden original, so defeating the purpose of making it quick and cheap.

There are actually some really good plastic recorders out there these days.

I tried a Zen-On alto that was a really nice instrument.

That is actually true. A lot of plastic recorders seem to have been designed with the sole aim of kids blowing spit bubbles through them, but for a while some companies realised that it takes hardly more effort to tool up a really good design. The result is that some plastic recorders are rather good copies of some very good baroque recorders. If you look down the tube, you can see with these ones that they are not simply conical, but much more complex. I have heard some very excellent players indeed playing these in teaching wokshops, the result was really gratifying.

TIN RECORDER

Well, I suppose tine and other bits of stuff too.
I'v just ordered one for sessions, great for
learning tunes.

Easy fingering, great tone!

Ooh!

Now that sounds interesting - a cannoli/whistle. And the key would change as you consume it.

Well you could start at the other end and go from whistle to quena particularly if you have one highly precise buck tooth.
