lollycross,if you are using some sort of metal polish this could be the cause the irritation.Soap may not be strong enough to remove traces of polish the manufacturer aplied.Acetone will effectively remove unwanted traces and a final wash with dishwash detergent will get rid of the acetone.i hope this helps. You can always try the superglue trick. There are some people on the flute board who are allergic to blackwood, cocus, or cocobolo. They paint a little superglue onto the parts that touch their mouths. It's impermeable and can be taken off with acetone. It should work with aluminum too.

If you're allergic to aluminum, maybe heat shrink tubing around the fipple and nicely trimmed would make a protective cover.

Also, if the aluminum is clear anodized, you might be allergic to the clear dye or sealant.
