Don't worry about it, Jessie! Here's why:JessieK wrote:Ok, so I'm no Shania Twain.

1. Shania Twain, as far as I know, doesn't play the whistle, so you have it all over her anyway!
2. My own midriff isn't any smaller!

Hee hee. Just lucky, I guess. I read that stretch marks are hereditary. Before I started to show at all, I had a friend who was pregnant and she said she wouldn't let me see her belly because she was so upset about her stretch marks. I thought this was ridiculous! The thought of stretch marks didn't bother me at all (nature, all good stuff, and besides, I am never going to wear a bikini anyway, and I have a good guy). I discussed it with Dan and he said it wouldn't bother him at all, either. I was fully prepared to get them and not care. But so far (34 weeks down, 6 to go), I don't have any. My mom and my paternal grandmother didn't get them, either.NorCalMusician wrote:My wife wants to know:
!!! WHERE ARE THE STRETCH MARKS !!!
Of course, the photo quality isn't so good and there are photo marks that could appear like stretch marks. Ah, whatever.

When I was an intern at the medical center in Charleston, WV, I hung out with a bunch of residents. Two were working on the maternity wards. One female resident came out of the delivery room and grabbed another female resident and said, "you gotta come in here and see this f***ing thing!" So the other female resident goes in with her and, of course, they are both very sweet to the woman who had just given birth to her first child. The mother was very, very beautiful--like a model or something. She had had her baby an hour or so before and her stomach was already impossibly flat and devoid of stretch marks. That was what the resident wanted the other resident to see. It was just comical seeing them being so sweet and solicitous to the mother, and then coming out a cussing a blue streak over the woman looking so good after just having delivered.

I didn't have any stretch marks either. I got back to a size 10 almost immediately (was a 6 before I got pregnant). My stomach was gushy for a few months, but gradually returned to some semblance of what it was before over a period of several months. (I never had an incredibly flat one with a 6-pack, even in my teens). It was more age than pregnancy that made me have to fight the tummy bulge. I gave birth at 32, bounced back, then walked through a metabolic door of no return at 35! These days (age 39) I go back and forth between an 8 and a 10, but that's OK. I have a life and so don't have 3 hours a day to spend in the gym working out. I must look OK for my age--I'm getting married in July to a man 10 years my junior.
In the lobby of the new and luxurious Women's wing at Evanston Hospital, there's a statue of a young, slender woman, arms outstretched over her head, lifting a little baby up into the air. My midwife became fond of saying, after so many women sighed at the sight, "Oh that's not the new mother! That's the babysitter!"
