Great C whistles.... AGAIN!
Hey everybody,
What are some great inexpensive (under $30) C whistles. I have been searching for previous threads on this subject but the search engine doesn't seem to like "C" as a word. And looking for good, exceptional or great whistles, yields wayyyy to many results.
A few months ago (3-6 maybe?) there was a pretty good thread about this and I seem to remember folks praising Oaks but I could be wrong.
I'd like to get the best bang for the buck here as there is so little played in C proper; it would just be hard to justify the purchase of a high end C. But, of course, I still want it to sound great.
So tell me about your cheap, awesome, C wistles!
I know this has been done to death, but hey, it is at least on topic.
Best,
Scott McCallister

There's and old Irish saying that says pretty much anything you want it to.

I don't know if it comes in under $30 but it would certainly be close. Jerry's tweaked Waltons—he can't reliably tweak Generation Cs but these sound like Gens—would be the best cheap C I've ever played by quite a long way. I haven't tried one yet but I'd be prepared to bet that a Syn C would qualify as cheap and be a very good instrument.
A lot of people have noted that many brands that sound good in D are disappointing in C; perhaps the makers of cheap whistles just adapt their D design in a sloppy way. I like Clarkes and Sweetones in D but not in C. I actually quite like Susato Cs too. But Waltons and Syns have more character, IMO.

YES Syn whistles are great... and cheap... provided you don't want to play more than one whistle at the same time
In other words, if you got a syn C whistle (or any key) you can get other bodies in other keys... for very little money...
But, I also like oaks... and I agree that sweetone c's are not so good.
I have also heard Walton Cs and they are decent...
But the best whistle for your money has got to be Syns...
check out http://www.eng.uwaterloo.ca/~nlbrown/Ph ... nWhistles/ for some pictures of my Syns... the single shots are Ds, but they all look the same...
All are in USD:
One Syn Whistle head: $30
Seven Syn Whislte bodies: $35
Shipping from Australia to Canada (and probably most places...): $5
Total for what ends up being seven very playable whistles: $70
Very cheap....

Feadog nickel plated C. Nice and clear (more so than the brass) with reasonable volume, and looks great.
Sweetone C. Reliable quality and cheap.

And whether the blood be highland, lowland or no.
And whether the skin be black or white as the snow.
Of kith and of kin we are one, be it right, be it wrong.
As long as our hearts beat true to the lilt of a song.
