Thanks so much you guys! Heather and I have had a great time reading all your kind wishes!
I've even thought of trying to compose a short piece for my bride-to-be and play it for her during the ceremony on the whistle, but we'll see how brave I get!
So it sounds like there weren't any interesting customs I should be immediately aware of, like human sacrifice, or lighting all the neighborhood cats on fire. Just thought I'd check!
I would seriously like to invite any musicians in the area to come out and play either at the wedding, or at the session afterwards. I do hope it'll be MIGHTY!!! And no excuses about it being too far to go...I'm coming from Utah for heck's sake! LOL
Anyway, thanks again for all the kind words! My...OUR love to you all!
Bri & Heather~

Congratulations Brian and Heather. Our band used to do quite a few wedding gigs. On whistle nothing beat the slow tune Miss Hamilton followed by the awesome jig The Mouse in the Mug for wedding tunes. Of course you'll have plenty of inspiration for one like 'Smiling Bride'. =) Take care and have a great one.

Congratulations Brian
My wife and I had quite a Hoolie when we got married. She belonged to a pipe band and I with my Irish musician friends, with all those friends at our wedding it was a blast.
At one time we had the Irish musicians in one room going at it and pipers and drummers in the other. We had almost whole pipe band as an escort to the wedding.
We got married in a garden of a small bed and breakfast and then had the reception there in the pub.
The one thing that we did differently is, instead of a wedding cake, we had almost oven warm loaves of soda bread, baked by a dear friend, with a selection of gourmet jams and jellies, in honour of our ancestors and heritage. Everyone loved the idea.
One idea that I didn't fit in was to have someone play "Give me your hand." as your bride walks up the aisle. My mouth was to dry to play ----- nervous --- nah! ---RRRRRight!
All the best!
Mark

Congratulation! Great news, I wish all the happiness and fullfillment that your hearts can stand.
Make sure you drop me a line and keep me posted on your plans. Any thing I can do to help, let me know. (I'm only an hour or so from Harv'de Grace). At the very least, let me come to your session and share a tune with you both.
The only tradition that come to mind is not so much Irish as it is Musician. As you and Heather commit your hearts to one another the natural out come includes your music. At the reception following my wedding to may dear Peg, I pulled her over to the side for an additional wedding present, first as husband to wife. I sat her down in a comfortable chair, knelt on a knee and played and sang her a song. I played <a href=http://home.talkcity.com/SpiritCir/gods ... /side.html> By My Side </a> from Godspell. My heartgift to her and for her alone. The tradition is to give your bride something from your heart. So over the next few months think of that tune that expresses how dear she is to you, maybe a slow air that will let her know beyond simple words, that which only your heart holds for her.
Well, of course, there is the normal irish traditions; invitin' a whole bunch of friends including the rowdier sorts to the reception. All bent on celebratin' you joinin' along wit' embarassin' you and your new missus with song and dance and generally making merry. Drinkin' your health by Guiness and Jameson's.
Here's to the anticipation of a full, furrious, and fantatic life togeather.
And from your combined Heart Song, ...
