Tin whistle duets

Post by sbatura »

If anyone's interested in original tin whistle duets, I've published 36 in four volumes so far. You can see what they sound like at https://www.instagram.com/nasenaburat/ or https://seanbatura.com/. A lot of them are either canons or heavily use canonic technique. I have the impression that not much ensemble music is available for the tin whistle, so I'll be continuing to write duets for the instrument and would be interested to know if anyone's found any other composers who write this kind of music for the tin whistle; I would be interested in exploring some kind of collaboration with them. I've even written a 14-minute fugue for tin whistle duet but haven't recorded it yet (it'll be quite a beast to record, I think): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0996 ... tkin_p1_i0

Very nice. I gave you a follow on IG also. :)

I also play Abell whistles and have a whistle mouth piece he makes for modern flutes as well. I hadn’t thought much of playing music other than ITM on them, so your duets give me some ideas, especially as I used to play baroque flute rather extensively in college. I may have to try some early music on my whistles and also my modern flute with the whistle mouth piece soon! :D

Excellent! Thank you for your post. I have listened to 4 of them and have enjoyed them immensely. I am saving your website to my favorites so I will come back and listen to more of your music.

I play the whistle and simple system flute for my enjoyment and have been playing music outside of ITM on them. You have given me an additional area to investigate and play.

Thanks again!!!

Thank you, TxWhistler, I'm very happy you like them :)

Thanks for the follow, mountainflutist! Please let me know how playing early music on the tin whistle turned out. I was a player for decades before trying something other than ITM, so I'm hoping people start to realize how versatile the whistle can be despite it's limited range and no keys.

Here's one I wrote recently, a fugue for two tin whistles:

Though not directly aimed only for Tin Whistle, there are a few collections by Matt Seattle. Here are links to two of them. https://www.amazon.com/Airs-Pairs-Matt- ... 1899512705

I’ve played a few with a small ensemble, and we liked them.

I've never played ITM on my whistles or keyless flutes. :D

Tin whistles used to be quite a common instrument back in the day, & keyless flutes are Folk Flutes, so have again been played on almost every other genre than ITM - it's just that this forum focuses on ITM in the main, personally not my kind of music, but there are some interesting people here with a common interest/instrument, so I keep coming here.

Trying to do justice to my various musical instruments.
