I just put up a new website, at the same address: http://www.busmanwhistles.com/
It's very much a work in progress, but I wanted something I could edit myself. The old site was written for me in Microsoft Frontpage which Microsoft is no longer supporting. At the recommendation of my web host, Tigertech.net, I used WordPress which I'm learning as I go along.
I need to figure out how to reorder some items on my pages menu, maybe imbed some music so it plays when you access the site, etc.
Not trying to sell a whistle here, but take a peek and let me know what you think. Thanks.
BTW-- if anyone here has video or audio of my whistles that you like, I'd love some more material for the site.

Nice job, Paul.
I've proven who I am so many times, the magnetic strips worn thin.

Yes, nice job. I especially enjoyed clicking on the workshop photos for close ups.

I would recommend against embedding music. Having audio samples is good, but people usually don't want music playing without their permission.

I agree 100%. It's instant annoyance, and the last thing you want to do is annoy potential customers.calanthrophy wrote:I would recommend against embedding music. Having audio samples is good, but people usually don't want music playing without their permission.
You've been listening earlier to, say, the 1812 Overture at room-level volume. Then later you navigate to the site, and suddenly you're both startled and blasted out of your seat. At my age, that's heart attack territory. Or you're trying to compute quietly in a quiet environment - at home at night, or in a café or public space, and suddenly ... No, autoplay music has to be one of the Top 10 design no-nos.
Of course, an opt-in option to turn background music on is probably OK.

Good advice about the music. I can insert little music players on a page with a START/STOP button.
