What I got for Christmas
Merry Christmas everyone.
Every year my kids somehow find a way to leave me gobsmacked with some whistle related gift. Here's what the elves left me this year, a lunch box with a built in whistle.

And how does it sound with that hole spacing?

Re: What I got for Christmas
Yes Peter, good question. But I cannot answer that just yet. I do not have my hopes up, judging from the hole layout. We are presently going through the ethical conundrum over whether to leave the thing "mint, in the box" or to take it out and play with it. I may have to sleep/dream on it and hope that Leonard Nimoy (or Joanie Madden) provide some guidance on how to proceed.
There was also a Moeck palisander r*%$*^r with rings in the gifts with a receipt in the box from a music shop in France dated 1976. It appears to be unplayed. That one sounds terrific.

Forget the whistle. What's the sandwich?

Unfortunately, you might want to call ahead first.ytliek wrote:But there's no dessert... have some dessert!
And now back to Christmas.CNN wrote:Across town, about 2 miles from the normal protest route, a museum and custard shop called the Whistle Stop was set on fire, and "gasoline appears to have been poured around that facility."

Your children scored big this year.

Well, no famous whistle players came to me in my dreams. Nor did Spock. And you are right, mutepointe.mutepointe wrote:Use the thing. Anything that was meant to be a collector's item will never raise in price.

I opened the package today. The whistle is unplayable. It is totally bizarre. What were they thinking? The entire body is ovalized like someone squashed a Susato Kildare after being left out in the hot sun. That's not so bad, the bore is round. The bore is tapered from head to toe. There is a thumb hole below the joint. But there is still another tonehole far above the joint, as you can probably see. The finger stretch from TH1 to TH2 is crazy long in relation to the length of the whole instrument. To top it all off, the edge of the labium is well below the exit of the windway too. So the thing is a sham instrument all the way round I'd say. Maybe the similar lunch box with the short little drum sticks would be more useful in a jam (with a peanut butter sandwich of course).
The sandwich box seems serviceable.
It was good for a laugh on Christmas morning though. And I liked that. It is still worth a chuckle when I look at it.
The sandwhich was left out of my package. That's probably a good thing.MTGuru wrote:What's the sandwich?
Bummer about the Whistle Stop in Ferguson. Bummer all the way round the nation actually.
Now that is a nice set of whistles. Milligans, right? Hope you get the missing body next Christmas.olly498 wrote:Here's what I got

I am disappointed too. This calls for an e mail to the manufacturer.

I don't know. The company no longer shows this lunchbox on their website so it has probably been withdrawn from the market.
However this is the first time that I've gotten a whistle that was truly flat.

And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')

Re: What I got for Christmas
Yeah Milligans. I got the loud and quiet head, one for practice, one for gigging I also got a Whorfin, the #77 in pear wood. Both are absolutely gorgeous to play and look at! I've gone to Mexico for the new year and didn't want to take them due to the temperature and humidity. I know I've got issues as I'm kind of looking forward to going home so I can be with them again...Feadoggie wrote:Now that is a nice set of whistles. Milligans, right? Feadoggie
