Anyone know what tunes were played below deck in Titanic?!
Hello everyone. It's been quite a while since I last posted here but I'm happy to see that this forum is still thriving!
I've received a message from someone asking, "Have you any idea what tunes were played below decks when the Kate Winslet & Leonardo de Caprio characters partied in steerage?" That's in the movie, Titanic, of course. I honestly can't remember the music being played in the movie and wonder if anyone here has an answer that I can pass on to the person who asked this?
Thanks in anticipation and best wishes to everyone!
Mick

When ‘Jack’ say’s to Rose, ‘So, you wanna go to a real party?’ The first tune is ‘The Blarney Pilgrim’ followed by ‘The 40 pound float’ also known as ‘John Ryan’s Polka’.
I remember ‘The Kesh jig’ is where the young Rose stands on point and they all end up dancing around to the reel ‘Drowsy Maggie’.
That's what I can remember without digging out the movie, my wife and kids have watched it numerous times so I can recall those particular tunes without having to view the movie.

The tunes in that scene were performed, on screen and off, by the Los Angeles-based band Gaelic Storm. I don't believe Tony Hinnigan had anything to do with that segment.talasiga wrote:I think the the Chief would be good for you to PM ......

Last time I saw a few minutes of it, I believe I heard Rakish Paddy on pipes as they were being chased by the evil butler.

Yes thanks for the extra infoormation but I didn't mean to imply that the Chief played every bit of music on the Titanic. He did some prominent stuff for it and therefore may have a deeper background on the the general scene about the music for the whole movie. I am proud that we have amongst us such a member and I would hope that you, as a member and C&F moderator would also be positive about this.MTGuru wrote:The tunes in that scene were performed, on screen and off, by the Los Angeles-based band Gaelic Storm. Oh, sure. But Brian Walsh, the piper in that scene, is an acquaintance. And my impression from conversations is that he and the band were solely responsible for the selection of tunes in the scene.
