I saw Lindisfarne at Cropredy festival - 2003 I think. Still had the power to move my feet and lift my heart. It was at that festival I bought my first low whistle.....

Tell us something.: I'm a fiddler and, latterly, a fluter. I love the flute. I wish I'd always played it. I love the whistle as well. I'm blessed in having really lovely instruments for all of my musical interests.

I think I've changed my mind about them. They're clearly capable of great evil.

That one came directly from Billy Mitchell. He says that in the USA they always had trouble with people getting the band's name wrong since the name Lindisfarne had no other cultural identity here. So they were frequently introduced as Linda's Farm. Who knows if it's true. Billy really is "Jack the Lad". They don't get over to the US much. I haven't seen them live since 2002. They do put on a good show. No Fog on the Tyne or Lady Eleanor but I enjoyed the new work. The songs are quite nicely written and arranged.

Hey, Dylan plays here once a year and he doesn't play the stuff from the early 70's much either. He's just as rootsy as he was in the early 60's. I enjoy him even if he has become a caricature of himself. . Amazing body of work.

You all have given me plenty to think about and plenty of inspiration. I'll probably slog forward playing by ear - given that I'm having enough of a challenge reading music as it is. :boggle:

Waltons 'Guinness' model. Identical to the 'Little Black' except it has the Guinness logo and a cream top.
Oh, it also has an aluminium tube. A friend bought me one years ago, it just sits in my whistle pouch unplayed, I prefer my old Gen' D.

They all play on the penny whistle
You can hear them blow
If you lean your head out far enough
From Desolation Row

Dylan covered all of us there in his epic

“Have Mercy on His Soul”
They all play on the penny whistle
You can hear them blow
If you lean your head out far enough
From Desolation Row
... seems even more appropriate somehow with the extra line added :moreevil:
"I'm playing all the right notes—but not necessarily in the right order."
