Lest we forget...

Post by Cayden »

Over the past few weeks many things have been said here and many people have shown their true colours. It has left this place changed. While things in the world are about to unfold, this may be something to think about.

I greet you all,

Peter

Though there are torturers in the world
There are also musicians;
Though at this moment
Men are screaming in prisons,
There are jazzmen raising storms
Of sensuous celebration
And orchestras releasing
Glories of the spirit.

Though the image of God
Is everywhere defiled
A man in west Clare
Is playing the concertina,
The Sistine Choir is levitating
Under the dome of St. Peter's
And a drunk man
On the road
Is singing
For no reason.

Tell us something.: Been a fluter, citternist, and uilleann piper; committed now to the way of the harp.

Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps.

That's exactly the thing I came to C&F for: the beautiful absurdity of making music in the face of it all.

Thanks, Peter.

Very touching Peter.

I like to believe the same as Tolkien that there was music in the beginning and there will be music in the end.

Agreed, Peter.

The transatlantic slanging-match that we're seeing here saddens me. I wonder will C&F ever be the same again.

Thanks, Peter.
You're being short-worded and sensible as usual. So, what's changed? :)

Tell us something.: I'm a musician, a music librarian, and grew up with parents who played bluegrass and gospel music. They also played old-time music and didn't know it. I love folk music -- and have tried to learn the tin whistle off and on for a while. Love the jokes here, the transcriptions, the links to tunes. What fun! So much music, so little time. :)

Thank you, Peter, I needed that. I almost didn't read it, as I'm boycotting all political threads as of last night, but I'm glad I decided to check and see what this was. I'm going to print it out and carry it with me over the next few weeks.

There has been political discussion on this board in the past that has been insightful and illuminating. I would hate to see that disappear. But recently I have only looked in on political threads occasionally and have been deeply saddened by much of what I've seen. I have occasionally declined to post, even to correct elementary historical or philosophical mistakes, in part because I thought that the person being addressed simply would not want to know.

Thanks Peter for helping to restore the sanity we need now, and in the coming weeks, more than ever.
