Dixon High D Duo

edit

Cranberry, see my post on the Gaelic Crossings forum.

I love my soprano d Dixon with the brass tuning slide, but I despised my low D duo set, I had to blow very softly to get a very quiet sound and the bell tone wasn’t that easy to hit. But if it is anything like the Dixon with the brass tuning slide, it should be very good.

Unless you’re an experienced flute & piccolo player, the piccolo head is going to gather dust. BUT it’s really good value, and there might come a day when you want one.

I got the piccolo head (for free - thanks Tony!) but I rarely use it. The original tunable high D I actually prefer to the BTS version, it’s breathier but I like that. I also have the low D duo, and rarely try the flute head, but again it’s there if I ever feel the need to experiment.

I’d say go for it.

Dixon whistles are awesome! But the flute head…
For $6. you can get a plastic Cooperman fife (B flat). Believe it or not, it’s the best $6 you’ll ever spend (if you want to play something like that). Stay away from Cooperman whistles, though. And their maple fifes.
