Re: D and C

It's just "the way it is". Different communities have decided their "non transposing" notation for various reasons, and there doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason. Whistle has chosen the key of D, but I can't read it as I came from other traditions where key of C was the norm....

Re: Game changer in low D whistles - new video

Watched the whole video. :o Very excited. I'm still gonna save for the E but having the close spacing option there and the thumb hole option is even better than I planned for. With all those options, I'm gonna have to keep the piggy banked closed up awhile longer though.

Re: Game changer in low D whistles - new video

Following. I recently looked at this option and determined the ergonomics were likely to still not work for me due to the reach to the holes. (I have some RSI issues.) It looked like the E was as big as I wanted to go for both reach and spacing issues. I'm still saving for a Carbony E. Are you sayin...

Re: Drilling some thumbholes

FWIW, Carbony does thumbholes. I have an alto Ab with both thumbholes and they are in good positions. This is my only Carbony so I have nothing to compare against, but so far I haven't noticed any downside to the extra holes.

Well, yes and no. It is wider bore than whistle so won't go a full two octaves, but goes much higher than a standard NAF.

I have a "diatonic" from him though it doesn't really play like a whistle to me.

FS: low D whistle Metcalf Silver Star, $160

Low D Nick Metcalf aluminum tuneable - $160 - Silver Star model with offset holes. Bought new last year from Nick and still in "like new" condition. I hesitate to put this one on here as the tone is so nice and velvety. But a man's gotta know his limitations, and I just don't see getting t...

FS: Thunderbird G whistle, non tuneable, $90

Alto G Chieftain Thunderbird aluminum nontuneable - $90 - plays well in tune if you give it the air it wants. This is what I would call a hard blower and I'm more of a medium to low blower. All prices include shipping to U.S. Will ship internationally but will have to compute shipping depending on t...
