They don't play well under water....

Best wishes.

Re: Opinions on the O'Briain and the Freeman Blackbird?

Oh yes, I know so much "depends" when asking for advice or opinions in these type of matters. But one can certainly gather trends. I mean if >80% have people where saying something along the lines of "The O'Brian's are pot metal junk and they sound like you're in a typhoon for all the...

Re: Opinions on the O'Briain and the Freeman Blackbird?

I thank everybody for their thoughts so far. I took a look at the Potter and price is right for sure. It LOOKS awfully similar to a Dixon Trad. Any similarity or differences, relating to playability, beyond to the Trad? PS I had shark fin soup way back in '79 up in San Francisco. It was an upscale C...

Opinions on the O'Briain and the Freeman Blackbird?

If you have received and played a Cillian O'Briain improved Feadog and/or a Freeman Blackbird over the last year or so... What do you think of them? How do they compare? Did you find the O'Briain sufficiently "improved" to be worth 5 times as much as the original Feadog it's modified from?...

Whistle sale coming...

Keep your eyes open everybody, I'm just waiting for my *Chris Wall whistle to get here then I'm going to evaluate my current acquisitions and probably be letting about 2/3 to 3/4 of them go. These will be a bundle of high D's, in like new condition, for 33% off with postage included. I'm pretty sure...

Re: Grey Larsen Books - wich one

Sorry. I have no idea how I posted this twice. Can't seem to delete it so just have to write the "excuse me" in here. I have the larger one. Got it years ago. For me it's just a larger resource. You don't have to use anything but what you want to out of it, but the more the merrier. Kind o...

I have the larger one. Got it years ago. For me it's just a larger resource. You don't have to use anything but what you want to out of it, but the more the merrier. Kind of like taking a jacket with you when you go out in case it's gets too cold. You don't have to wear it, but if you need to you ha...

Re: Experience with Becker Alto A or G?

Here's my old Goldie G. I wish I'd kept it. Plays very much like the F. At the time, I felt it wasn't used enough to justify hanging onto it, though it's probably my favorite of all the G whistles I've tried. https://youtu.be/-vFNUEJv9os Oh yeah. That sounds the best. And a difference of ONLY $280 ...

Re: Experience with Becker Alto A or G?

I've got the Becker G. If you need to fill gaps in your lineup, inexpensively, you can hardly go wrong with the Becker. Very soft blowing, and fairly quiet, but has a decent, round tone. I think mine was $15. It's not my favorite whistle, but when you factor in the price, it's hard to beat. I think...

Experience with Becker Alto A or G?

Re: Dixon brass Trad D.... disappointed.

hmmm..... Turns out my favorite whistles are an Oz Vambrace delrin, Parks and Susato. All plastic beasties. I've a couple metal ones that I like, but not as much as I like my plastic. Thinking about it... My favorite flutes are Shannon and Tipple for D. My favorite F is a Billy Miller. Seems I tend...

Re: Dixon brass Trad D.... disappointed.

------- sealing all of the holes can be a challenge for us newbies. I've found that applying a little skin moisterizing lotion to my hands before I play seems to help. This probably sounds a bit silly and may not apply to everybody. I'm an older guy with dry older guy skin, and the lotion really se...

Re: Received my BECKER & FOSTER whistles.

Just to be clear, what I'm talking about in this case when I say PVC is the stuff that starts out life as a 10 foot (3 meters if you like) or whatever length of plastic water pipe that you get from the big box home improvement store or some such place. Then you take it to your home workshop where yo...
