Re: Poor acting student, piper in 2 weeks?

Maybe he could play standing, or even walking, if it's a Pakistani set *duck and cover*.

It's terribly frustrating to see all those sets unplayed.

Re: Any 4711ers here?

In fairness to Guinness/Diageo, the "canned draught" is a pretty good substitute when draught is not available. The key is to make sure the can is seriously chilled before opening. And, ideally, the drinker.

Re: Any 4711ers here?

I confess myself 100% ignorant of Arthur's Day, until 5 minutes ago.. The lads didn't take to the Diageo merger then..? The Diageo factor was only part of the issue. Much had to do with Christy's success in overcoming his own issues with the demon drink, and his insight into how we are manipulated ...

Re: new keyed chanter

I doubt the standard of pipemaking has ever been so high as it is today. Amen to that. And speaking of which, I'm already looking forward to our very own BillH's Notes and Narratives talk "The Forensic Pipemaker" at NPU Henrietta St. on Friday 21 August 2015. Starts at 20:30 Irish Summer ...

Ach so. Never heard the term before. http://www.answers.com/Q/Where_does_the_term_4711ers_come_from Fond of him as an institution, but after the first Planxty gig I was hooked on pipes so LOF became my main man among them, followed by Donal Lunny for his work on arrangements and recordings. I also g...

Resale value of Arie de Keyzer Concert chanter

I have an Arie de Keyzer concert chanter that I haven't played for years, and which I no longer need as I have a Rogge full set. It seems a shame to leave it lying in a drawer, even though it is not currently reeded. Would anyone care to suggest how much it might sell for? It's in African blackwood ...

Re: bombarde anyone?

[ Thread revival. - Mod ] Someone who plays the bombarde is called a talabarderien. A talabarderien never plays alone because he/she must have regular breathing pauses. It takes a lot, lot more breath than a whistle. A talabarderien can play in sequence with another talabarderien, where they altern...

Double sided tape has a googolplex of uses ,apart from my wife using it when wearing low cut dresses to stop her boobs poping out,.I use it to make sanding boards of different grits by sticking the sandpaper to pieces of 1/4 inch MDF. Liam O'Flynn is definitely the person to watch before you develop posture habits.

I unfortunately tried to sit like Paddy Keenan as he sat 40 years ago, but on the edge of my seat. Still trying to undo the damage.

Re: An experiment with playing a reel as a slow air.... sort of.

It's called "playing a tune the piece way". Delighted you have done this, it's one of my hobby-horses that people nowadays only do it with a handful of tunes which have been recorded by older pipers in this way. Any tune is amenable to the treatment, and it provides an opportunity for pers...
