CP: July update

I spent the last few months getting a couple of whistles out of an old log. All you wood guys will know what I mean -this was cut back in the 1970's in the arid center of NSW Australia. I was given it by the guy who taught me how to work wood. And I have been looking at that old log for 6 years or m...

Re: CP for July and on

Hey Mack.

Being a friend to you made me a better person.

All we can do is keep giving.
And that is what I think life is All about.
I still play that whistle you made for me and I still remember all the advice you gave me.

Your wing is unbroken.
It makes a ton of sense to me.

CP: June update

Hello All!

As the southern winter sets-in and things slow-down, I've had a chance to get some off-book whistles made in interesting woods and keys.

Please PM if interested?

Re: Playing whistle in Australian humidity

My experience is that it is not so much the ambient humidity so much as the process of the whistle gaining equilibrium with it. In high-humidity environments, the "warming-up" process seems to take longer. For instance, if you play a whistle in a foggy environment, it will sound a bit &quo...

Re: CP: May update.

...It bears mention, for any who might listen to these two soundclips, the difference in timbre between the two samples is likely not a difference in the two whistles, but a difference in recording setting. The indoor sample, played by Colin Farrell, should give the better indication of what these ...

Re: How to clean out, swab out whistle?

The principle to a shiny bore is that a dull bore will have detrimental affect on the upper octave. Consider your materials. Metallic bores may be subject to oxidization which will dull the bore. In such cases, I would be careful of abrasives or anything which will leave deposits. That is not to say...

CP: May update.

Hello all, Hoping the turning of the season is kind to you! Here the weather is finally turning from sweaty to bearable, as those in the north must be enjoying the turn from shivering to bearable. The spring and the autumn are times for celebration, north and south. I have a few offerings: Firstly, ...

Agency: a question for musicians

Question: I have been exploring the locus of "self" for quite a while now. I see that any "self" must push-back entropy to keep some store to overcome the chaotic challenges we face. What I find is that all "selves" maintain a membrane that regulates inflow and outflow ...

... All the fine sanding with less than ideal ventilation led to me developing w contact allergy and it got in my eyes. Two weeks bandaged up was enough to keep me away from it. ... Ouch! Yes, cocobolo dust must be avoided. It smells like pepper mixed with chocolate - with a reaction to match! Most...
