Re: Used Flutes For Sale?
Thanks cathal morley! I appreciate the recommendation. I'm happy you got the Tipple. It was just sitting atound not being played. I'm attempting to learn the Shak and a few other rim blown flutes and I just want to thin out my collection. It was nice working with ...

Re: Used Flutes For Sale?
Please buy one (or all) of Bill's flutes.
He's a super guy to deal with and his prices are irresistible.
I snatched his Tipple and I wish I had the talent to play the other flutes.
God bless C&F and the great people on it!

Re: PVC Irish Flutes
... I'd suggest you send your flute to some expert players so they can demonstrate it on more complex or faster tunes. Seeing Jem Hammond play Doug Tipple's flutes on YouTube convinced me that it was a proper flute and not just a budget instrument, and this was a big factor in my choosing to buy ...

... was pleasing to the eye. So, I seldom felt condfident that I have a marketable product. I have had the pleasure of buying two flutes from Doug Tipple. He uses Fajardo's wedge and he hand-crafts them beautifully. I think he has also perfected the use of Fajardo's wedge. I think Dough Tipple ...

Chimney depth and undercutting
... depth. What are the effects of this? Lastly, blowing edge undercutting is a mystery to me as well. Looking at the embouchure hole of the Doug Tipple non lip plate that I have, I see that it has a pretty drastic undercut slope - almost runs even with the curved wall of the flute. Now, I have ...

... you can read the relevant messages (#2401). Personally I would stick to PVC. Better wall thickness for the height of the embouchure hole. Doug Tipple's flutes with the lip plates and wedge are even better.

... plate for a deeper chimney. It should be a decent starter flute. It addresses several of the issues in the earlier Dixon polymer flutes. Also Doug Tipple makes a good beginner flute but the finger stretch between holes will be a bit more than the Dixon layout. Pretty good flute. Feadoggie

... issue that arises. You need a flute to learn to play. It is hard to make a flute if you do not know how to play. PS: I'd love to buy one of Doug Tipple's flutes but shipping anything into the country where I'm currently living is a nightmare I would not like to relive. And under other circumstances ...

... more that you can do with a well cut embouchure. So unless yo are an experienced player it all sounds fairly normal. I've made flutes using Doug Tipple's plans and I have improved on that old design of his by making my own adjustments. But Doug's plan works. And I have made more flutes from scratch ...

Questions about Self-Made PVC Flute.
Following instruction from Pete Kosel's calculator and Doug Tipple's site I have made my own PVC Flute. However it has some peculiarities and I wonder if these are really like a real wooden flute or I just made a bad flute. When I play the flute with no ...

... buy a more expensive flute eventually. So think long haul. On the other hand if a Dixon falls into your lap at a good price... You already had a Tipple fall into your lap. Just sayin'. The embouchure on the Dixon can be difficult. The hole is smallish, not terribly unlike some of the older Tipples. ...
