CP: Old Clarinet Blackwood to Repurpose for Flutes

... upper tenon, facing the wood, putting hose clamps around the lower tenon and along the body before reaming, and then turning the outsides. Patrick Olwell said that they machine these into head joints above the barrel joints. The wood is usually fantastic on these though I have found a few with ...

Most people don't know he offers this service.

Re: Now I went and did it ... ordered an Olwell

Oddly coincidental, my main flute is a CB boxwood Rudall, which is fantastically expressive, and I am waiting on my CB standard mopane to return from a tuneup with a slide and rings. Good luck with the Olwell, compare them when you get it.

Re: Now I went and did it ... ordered an Olwell

Congrats! I'm at over 13 months waiting for mine at the moment, so be prepared for it to be more than a year! I was quoted around 10 months when I ordered...but I know that was just an estimation. Bunch of us still hard at it and planning to be for some time. Olwell and Sons seems to be the top of the pile and they plan to be in business for years, according to what Aaron told me the other day. I have never seen an Olwell that I didn't like and all ...

Now I went and did it ... ordered an Olwell

So after years (over a decade :o ) of putting it off, I finally got around to putting in my order for an Olwell Blackwood keyless Pratten with a French lined head. It’s going to be a long year :) I’ve got a lot of work to get myself in shape to be worthy LOL. I’m also waiting ...

Re: Grinter flute price?

I imagine that considering his tragic departure they'll probably go for a pretty penny, I'm thinking in the range of Olwell's birthday flutes? What's your opinion? I think that’s a big stretch, as the Olwell birthday flutes have special features over the standard models…metal lined ...
