Re: do most professional musicians play Overtons or Kerrys?

Phil Hardy has told me that he's not responsible for the clips on Youtube, so just wanted to clarify that for him.

Re: do most professional musicians play Overtons or Kerrys?

The makers of Kerry whistles post many videos on YouTube of famous players (whether they are playing Kerry whistles or not). That may add to the idea that a lot of professionals use them. (I'm not saying they don't) I don't know of any professionals who stick to only one maker. Seems to me that perh...

Re: Caitlin Triall - My first recording with my new Low D

I could click and listen without downloading just fine. IT sounds nice. Just feels like you need to get a little more comfortable with the whistle and start feeling the melody rather than pushing it out.

Re: CP fully Chromatic Low Whistle from ethnicwind.com

btw, I can't seem to figure out how to change the title of this thread to remove the CP... I agree with Jem that it's more of a technical discussion, which is great for me so I can improve my design... I've actually learned a lot from all the posts on this thread, so thanks!

Re: CP fully Chromatic Low Whistle from ethnicwind.com

Well, the new flutes arrived two days ago, and I realize a big part of the problem I was having was the piece of crap flute I had here. The new ones are much better. I also spent a significant amount of time modifying and re-modifying the design. I tried a million different wedge like apparatuses, a...

Re: ergonomic, curved Whistle-Head

Thanks for your videos. I believe there's a market for this sort of thing. I am developing a similar mouthpiece for the boehm flute, and would appreciate any advice. Don't want to steal your trade secrets or anything..... do you use any kind of wedge device to correct the second octave intonation? I...

Re: CP fully Chromatic Low Whistle from ethnicwind.com

Pretty sure that's just my bad playing... And the popping sound is me hitting the keys down too hard, especially when I'm getting confused about too many things for my six hole accustomed fingers to do. You can slap a hole nicely for Irish music on a whistle but get a nice key popping sound on a key...

Re: CP fully Chromatic Low Whistle from ethnicwind.com

Re: CP fully Chromatic Low Whistle from ethnicwind.com

That was quick! Fair play, good work. Agreed, it sounds much better, so far as one can discern through the mulchy pop backing and reverb! Most of the previous intonation issues do seem to be cured, though I got the impression you were still having to push the top L hand 2nd 8ve notes up a bit with ...

Re: CP fully Chromatic Low Whistle from ethnicwind.com

OK, so I have worked a little with it and even though I was skeptical I came up with a small wedge like device that corrected the tuning issues. everything seems right on tune now, and I threw out my crappy first video and have made a new one. please listed to the new one (which is updated in the fi...

Re: CP fully Chromatic Low Whistle from ethnicwind.com

Well, my process was far more complex Than a simple slap a whistle head on a flute idea. I have seen those clips on YouTube and that was one of my inspirations for making this. For those that know me you will find I'm a pretty smart guy, but I have found that aside from understanding thenphysics of ...

Re: Dreams of Ireland music

Thanks for the kind words about my album. I did write that one... You're welcome to use it, unless you make millions, than I want a cut. I don't have sheet music for it, but if you needed like a slowed down whistle only type of thing I could do that for you.

Cheers!

Ahhh... Now that you mention it, I did read that on the MB site a while back.... I might have even made one like this for a customer once.... I guess my memory isn't so functional at 2am.... But C&F is great for my insomnia... Thanks for refreshing me.

Re: CP fully Chromatic Low Whistle from ethnicwind.com

Yeah, I have no training on the keyed flute. So most of the bad sound is me. A fipple based end blown mouthpiece doesn't usually need a wedge type device to maintain the intonation of the second octave. That's why no whistle makers (that I know of) need them. I did find that when I played the flute ...

Re: Where is a good place to buy delrin for making a whistle?

I second Walts suggestion of polycarbonate. It is available in thin walled tubes and the sizing is precise enough that a 1" od tube will slide snugly into a 1"id tube for example, and you can get rods for the fipple plugs. Really takes a lot of time out of the whistle making process, and t...
