I have one for my mandolin. It's worked wonderfully for me. What do you mean by too short? Is it unable to connect the two together? That's correct. The threaded end of the "fork" has that plastic piece that fits over it, and the threaded end (that screws into the wall-mounted hardwood) d...

Some serious players might be put off if you call it a jam. Just say "session," you'll be better off. Agreed. I've started one before. The previous advice given is all sound. There's something that you should be aware of, however. The publican is in the business to make money. Don't be pu...

String Swing Trouble...

Any of you fiddlers out there.... have you ever purchased or used a 'String Swing' ? I just received one today, and it seems that the bolt that connects the hanging fork to the small hardwood piece is... too short! I've contacted StringSwing.com to let them know, but haven't heard back as yet... but...

Re: Bobby Casey's version...

There's a great version by Bobby Casey a few minutes in, in this archives Ceili House edition (from Pat D'Arcy's uilleannobsession.com). I'll take Kieran Hanrahan's advice and put it forward as a "great version of Colonel Fraser": http://uilleannobsession.com/audio/ceilihouse/080704_ceili...

Why is it people are fine and dandy having the TV blaring away night and day at ear-splitting levels (especially when the commercials come on), whether they are even in the room or not, but pull out a flute and they get all nasty on you and banish you to the far corners of the house. The far corner...

This appears to be a good overview of how soundproofing works... http://www.uhfmag.com/Issue63/soundproofing.html And this site dispels some myths.. Q I've heard that sticking egg boxes or acoustic foam to walls will help soundproof a room. Is this true? Egg boxes can make a marginal improvement to ...

Good luck!
I haven't heard Jerry's version, but I think Pat's version is about as good as it gets, IMHO.

Who Can Translate for the US Postal Service?

After attempting to track a parcel sent by USPS, I was notified of the ah, 'status' of the shipment with the following message: The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper on August 27, 2007 to expect your package for mailing. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the ...

She should have answered the question with a question. Something along the lines of: "Where did that poll information come from? 1/5 of Americans can't locate the US on a world map? Really? I'm not sure I believe that statement, but if it is indeed true, it's probably due to poor attempts at ed...

There's a tune called Cuz Teehan's. The story I heard was that Irishmen looking for employment would go in and say they were a cousin of Teehan, a well respected Irishman, and they would invariably get the job. djm My Great-grandfather was "the man to see" if one wanted a job on the docks...

The father was a piper too. O'Neill is known to have helped many musicians gain employment in the CPD. I can't remember all off hand, but Sgt. Early would be one.
