Re: Flute Embrochure
A couple years after I began trying to play Irish on the whistle, I lucked into a middling-good simple system flute. I had just the kind of trouble you describe getting sound, much less music, out of it. I went to a local music store, rented a cheap silver-plated Boehm flute, and took beginning flut...

Re: Communication with Mary Bergin website?
Both volumes arrived today in great shape. Still no emails, but I'd rather have the books and discs. Two weeks form Ireland is pretty typical here. Now I just need to muster the discipline to go through the material front to back.

Communication with Mary Bergin website?
I ordered Volumes 1 & 2 of MB's whistle tutor last Friday (Sept. 1). Payment went through and shows on my account history, but there was no confirmation email from vendor. I waited till the following Monday and sent a message to email address on website asking for confirmation. Still nothing. UR...

Help Tracking Down Whistle Book published in Ireland 1970
This is a crazy long shot, but I'm trying to identify and if possible find a copy of an Irish whistle book that was published back in the 1970s. This was one of the first Irish music books I acquired when I started playing Irish music around 1976. I loaned it out and it never came back. All I rememb...

Re: Lejeune flutes?
I haven't had a chance to play any of Geert's complete flutes, but I have a lined cocus and silver head and barrel from him that I had made for a very fine small-holed 8-key made by John Garrett, London, in 1845 (based on the hallmarked silver keys). I decided to ask Geert based on his stocks of 80-...

Re: Are there any ITM music books for accordion.
Karen Tweed's music is certainly a good place to start. One of the frustrations in pursuing ITM on PA is that many of the best players--Oliver Loughlin, John Kelly, Mirella Murray, Declan Payne, Martin Tourish--don't seem to make many "pure drop" solo recordings. There are some very choice...

Re: Are there any ITM music books for accordion.
Who am I to disagree with what you say about the ould drivel penned by Brother Steve, Bill :) but on the other question, regarding books on the Irish accordion, from what I know you are dramatically overstating the case. It all depends what Frank's Italian friend is looking for and what type of acc...

Re: Are there any ITM music books for accordion.
Yes, lots of them! Google or search Amazon etc. for "Irish accordion" with the names, John Williams, Peter Browne, Derek Hickey, Karen Tweed, Joe Burke, and Damien Connolly, for starters. You can probably find reviews on this site, TheSession.org, or the UK Accorion Forum. Also, check out ...

Re: FS: UK ONLY! Rudall Carte Boehm Flute Modern Pitch (A 440)!!
Price reduced to 1000 GBP in the interest of saving the hassle of receiving the flute and selling it in the US. Also in the interest of not being smitten by the well-used old thing once I play it!

Bill, do tell us more/all about the Radcliff! And piccies! Maybe in another thread? Oh, the Radcliff! Purchased through the good offices of Robert Bigio. SN 6200, made in 1922 by a Mr. Bull, by all accounts a well respected R&C flutemaker. Made for "the Governor of Bengal's band"!!!!!...

FS: UK ONLY! Rudall Carte Boehm Flute Modern Pitch (A 440)!!
Here's a lovely cocus and nickel Rudall & Carte Boehm system flute, SN 5956, made in 1919. I purchased for restoration a few weeks before a dream modern-pitched Radcliff came my way. Something has to go! The flute is currently with the redoubtable Arthur Haswell in Hexham, in the final stages of...
