Is gidgee a rare wood, endangered, or just not exported much?
Its not rare nor endangered, just not very often cut. You can have as much as you like though I have no idea how expensive it is. Try here, http://www.loggerheads.com.au

Re: Dial gauge

Don't fork out a fortune for an expensive one, have a look here http://www.littlemachineshop.com/products/product_category.php?category=1310310429&First=D&Last=D A dial indicator will set you back about $15. Starrett is better quality (and ten times the price) but you will never see the diff...

Re: Learning Music By ear, tricks of the trade?

There are two skills needed; one is knowing where the notes you are hearing in the tune are on your instrument. This comes after much playing, it can't be forced but one day you will suddenly realise it is there. Once you have this you can learn a tune without your instrument, simply by learning to ...

Re: I Need Help Buying a Practice Set

Ian is around $18-1900 Australian for a practise set in Blackwood, but I would suggest talking to him by phone at least even if you don't think you can make his price.

Re: I Need Help Buying a Practice Set

The only maker in Aus I know is Ian McKenzie. He is in the Blue Mountains, Blackheath. Nice bloke. I know a couple of people in Sydney who have his pipes if you want to ask about them.

Hoping to hear Mick O'Brien play...

Re: What metronome do you use?

My iPhone has a cheap ($2?) metronome that works through headphones, has all the bells and whistles, plus a tap counter (if you tap to the beat of a recorded tune it will tell you how fast it is.) You would not hear it over the pipes without headphones.

Re: Small Digital Recorders

I have been using an Edirol for some time and apart from the plainly silly battery cover and clunky menu it is a superb recorder. However I have recently downloaded an application for my Iphone (works on Ipods as well) that looks as if it will do everything I want, and rather than carrying two gadge...
