Re: breaking in new Lesouef flute

Hi Stephen, I am the happy owner of a Lesouef keyless flute in Mopane (July 2020) and keyed blackwood (July 2022). These were my first brand new flutes in a long time, so I had almost forgot about the amount of oiling new flutes need... Solen shared her document for flute care when I got the mopane ...

Re: Tips for a solid low D on Lesouëf flute.

I too own a mopane D flute by Solen Lesouef. I understand she made some design changes just before I received mine in July 2020, but what I experience and heard from other Lesouef players is that her flutes are made to play best with a more downward directed airstream. This can be accomplished by tu...

Re: Hammy Hamilton tunes on ITMA

Very cool! Thank you for sharing.
The last in-person (pre Covid) session I attended in Copenhagen (Feb 2020) Hammy was there and played some of his tunes.
Sessions are starting up again here so I should be getting out there.

Re: new flute or old

By all your criteria picking up a used 8-key like the Morvan is the way to go. I have had 2 keyless flutes on order. Waited a year and received both around the same time. There is great joy in the feel, smell and process of playing in a brand new wooden flute for sure. I am now also reminded how lab...

... your diaphragm is actually pushing the air out for you, without you having to blow. Apologies for nitpicking, but the diaphragm actually contracts during inhalation : it is passive during exhalation. but where, pray, would the merriment of online forums be without the frequent picking of nits :...

Re: Chris Wilkes 4 key flute for sale

Looking at Sweden based flute maker Tim Adam's flutes https://www.adams.se/flutemaker/ it looks like he made this type of modification part of his design. Not sure if this is the same or opposite, but when I received my Solen Lesouef flute last year I had a really hard time playing the bottom D in t...

also Francois Baubet (IRL) makes an excellent delrin flute that could match your checklist.
Played one for many years myself!
