Re: new flute or old

By all your criteria picking up a used 8-key like the Morvan is the way to go. I have had 2 keyless flutes on order. Waited a year and received both around the same time. There is great joy in the feel, smell and process of playing in a brand new wooden flute for sure. I am now also reminded how lab...

... your diaphragm is actually pushing the air out for you, without you having to blow. Apologies for nitpicking, but the diaphragm actually contracts during inhalation : it is passive during exhalation. but where, pray, would the merriment of online forums be without the frequent picking of nits :...

Re: Chris Wilkes 4 key flute for sale

Looking at Sweden based flute maker Tim Adam's flutes https://www.adams.se/flutemaker/ it looks like he made this type of modification part of his design. Not sure if this is the same or opposite, but when I received my Solen Lesouef flute last year I had a really hard time playing the bottom D in t...

Re: Lehart/copper rings

I owned a Lehart Bb flute many years ago - the rings are not treated as far as I can tell. They develop patina due to oxidation and if the flute is played are also handled and touched. It would take many many years of undisturbed oxidation for them to turn green: https://images.app.goo.gl/dbXMg4p2xY...

Re: Grinter deposit

Not a maker myself, Terry, but your post reminded me of the art world. My wife is an artist and sells her paintings. When exhibiting work, a customer can make a reservation on a piece if they need a day or two to think about it. If they intend to buy it once the exhibit is over, they put down a depo...

Re: Loudest keyless flutes (or largest bores)

I got my new keyless Olwell one year after ordering, almost to the day.

In my opinion loudness should not be a goal in itself. Tone, yes, volume when playing with other people quickly becomes a competition :)

Re: Loose ring on the foot joint

in addition to Kevin's comment, I'd say always contact the maker. In the instructions from Solen Lesouef it states to never attempt to glue loose rings on. They have a structural function, so while the ring is loose the tendon is more vulnerable (unless it's the very bottom ring, I don't think there...

Re: Measurement on Solen Lesouef D flute

I've been in touch with Solen after recently receiving my brand new keyless D flute (mopane).
She explained that her new design moves the 6th hole a bit further down.
cheers

Measurement on Solen Lesouef D flute

A bit of an odd request perhaps but if anyone who owns a Solen Lesouef D flute could share the measurement of the distance from the bottom edge of the 6th hole (the one you close to get a D) to the top edge of the c# hole on the foot joint, that would be a great help :)
Much appreciated!!

I also took about 20 years to finally get on the list. Placed my orders for a keyless and keyed back in October 2019 :)

Re: YouTube session Shannon and Matt Heaton

It's good fun! Shannon's Tune of the Month series are a wonderful teaching resource too. I'm not a guitarist, but recently Matt started a 'backer's corner' where he talks about chords and shapes for backing tunes, which I'm quite sure I will share with some guitarists that have shown an interest in ...

Re: WTB: 6-key Flute Lesoef / Watson / other - pref.sent fro

I passed on the Watson, since unless someone can carry it across the pond for me, danish authorities will add 25% VAt and import taxes on it. Looks like I just missed out on the 7-key Villoing offered on the used-instrument exchange. So, I'm still looking. I hope to receive a new keyless Lesouef in ...
