Does your chanter still have it’s rush in the lower half of the bore?
AFAIK these chanters are designed to have one.

Re: Metal Chanters
I have a chanter made from a bicycle seat stay. My dad realised that the internal taper was an approximation of a D chanter and decided to see if it would work. To some degree it did and subsequently he made a regulator out of the other side!

Re: Cool UP cases from England
Big fan of hiscox cases, got them for all my instruments. Before they did the Uilleann case, I hollowed out a viola case. Now use that for my C set. The Uilleann case I have is a perfect size and fit for my D full set. But, if you have a bellows that are quite fat or have a non detachable blowpipe, ...

Re: A couple of vintage pipes
To get back to Jeff’s original question. I think the chanter in its‘interesting’ position, is an early Brain Howard? The scooping on the back d is quite distinctive.
Jon
PS I can never add pictures either, that’s why I never posted any of my new set when I got it.

That looks like a Dave Williams stick.
If it is, that’s a bargain!

Re: What's wrong with the fit of my pipes?
Hi Calum, I don't think the neck of your bag is too long. If I'm not mistaken, that's a Laurence Thompson bag (O'Briain pattern) which don't have overly long necks. The tie in looks ok. my suggestion would be that you're maybe holding the chanter too close in and should leave the top tilt forward a ...

I used to use Michael Eskin’s app.
The only problem I found was being able to accurately ‘strike’ the keys. I ended up using my iPhone in a cradle and using my nose!

Re: McCallum getting into uilleann making
So if there are so many McCallum UP sets in existence it should be relatively easy to get an image off the internet, but I don’t seem to be able to find any?
Would someone post pics/video or a link to where we can see these?
Otherwise I’m slightly disbelieving that they exist.

Re: Thin chanters from modern makers
My first full set was bought from Doug Wilkinson and Glen McCarthy just over 40 years ago. Cost £400 which I had saved from my summer job while a student. Carried them back, wrapped in cardboard, from their workshop in east London to my hall of residence on the bus. Chanter was definitely chunky, w...

Re: Eight sets of pipes in G&H music instrument auction
So the 3 sets sold for above their estimates, the Robert Reid set nearly doubled the lowest estimate.
As I thought, the Crowley set wasn’t included in the sale today.
Time will tell who is the successful bidder(s) ( It’s not me!)
Hopefully the pipes will be played, or at least heard.

Re: How many Harrington sets exist?
Mick Wilkins made 2 sets, both have been discussed here before. A set in Boxwood and an ebony set. Both were offered for sale a few years ago, almost within weeks of each other. I bought the ebony set. The chanter was really nice, full of tone. I had some discussions with Mick over these sets and wa...
