Re: Puke: A Linguistic Lexicon

'Boke', that's a Belfast, Northern Ireland term to describe the action of being sick as well as the substance itself.
"I think I'm going to boke", "He had a face on him like a bucket of boke", "I nearly boked my ring up".
(it's pronounced like 'broke' without the 'r'.)

Re: CP: new website to sell and trade

Hi Eric, nice site, good luck with your endeavours. I just had a quick look at what you had in stock and noticed your comments on the Copeland Low D, ' except that it is a bit heavy '. I would suggest, as constructive criticism, leaving out personal thoughts on the weight of certain whistles. What m...

Re: Which Microphones for high quality Recording of Whistles??

I have used a pair of Shure SM57's for around 10 years now. I have the two mic's on a four-mic holder (one on each end of the holding bracket), I feed that through an old Sansui amp, which then goes through into the computer's sound card where I record using Cakewalk/Sonar. I get great results. I'm ...

Re: Newbie Videos

Mr.Gumby said; I have no quibble with this advice in general. It does make the big assumption that a beginner can distinguish where repeated notes are part of faulty notations or other misconceptions (how often do we see the Kesh jig starting GGG GAB AAA ABd e or Morrison's EEE BBB). Given the numb...

Re: Newbie Videos

I also noticed (as pointed out above) that you have a very high finger lift when you play. You really only need your fingers to come off the tone holes with enough clearance to allow the note to sound. Also, the tip on resting your pinkie (R4) on the whistle to steady it is a very good habit/techniq...

Re: Rowan Atkinson

I liked Fawlty towers when it first aired, I really cannot stand the repeats when they are shown these days, Basil Fawlty really annoys me now. Mr. Bean is another, he really grates on me, I like absurd comedy but not of the Mr Bean kind. Monty Python is a classic, although there are a lot of sketch...

Where are you in Australia Troy?
There are many more whistle players down this end of the world than you would think mate.

Re: Sessions in Adelaide, Australia?

I just had a chat with a mate of mine who attends sessions in Adelaide more often than I would get the chance to be there, just to check on what is still happening session wise. (edit 'wide',duh!) He agrees that the Daniel O'Connell is a good bet, there's a Tuesday afternoon/evening session there, w...

Re: Sessions in Adelaide, Australia?

Hi Wes, Just a quick reply here, I have to rush out but I shall be back later with more details. Your best bet in Adelaide is the Gov', The Governor Hindmarsh, it has a good Friday night session and mid week sessions. The Daniel O'Connell in Tynte Street also has midweek sessions. The Irish Australi...

Re: Ivy Leaf?

Yeah Hotblack , I did the 'between the thumbs with open hands' thing as well, it just seemed to make a bit more resonance with the cupped hand method (maybe because the sound stayed close to me that way rather than travelling/moving away with open hands? I found it hard to change/bend pitch with ope...
