Re: New Mike Rafferty CD review
I'll second the sentiments expressed. I actually bought two copies with a view to sending one to a former student of Willie's in Korea. But one stays in the CD player in the car and the other is in the computer (Patrick, if you read this, I'll get another for you soon:o). Brilliant playing by three ...

Hey Nate,
Give the Irish Arts Centre on W. 51st St. in Manhattan a shout. They may be able to help you.
The only chap I know of that fits the bill lives in Yonkers and that's a long way from Rockaway Beach.
Good luck with the search.

Hey Patrick, You don't say where you hang your hat but, if you're US-based, all I can say to you is to fly Continental Airlines whenever you can. I flew from the US to Ireland last May with a half-set of uileann pipes in a gym bag and the TSA people thought it was plumbing supplies as the bag was go...

octave and unison tuning
You're dead on, Joshua. An octave-strung zouk has the bass courses (the third and fourth courses) strung with a plain string and a wound one in each course, just like a twelve-string guitar. The actual string gauges will vary depending on scale length etc. A unison-strung zouk has a paired set of st...

questions for players of both fiddle and guitar
It doesn't seem to bother Randal Bays or Mark O'Connor, both of whom play both instruments with a great deal of dexterity. Re the callus issue, a few years ago I developed a bad case of tendinitis in my fretting arm that wouldn't go away. While getting acupuncture for it, a friend put me in touch wi...

Overtons for sale
Sorry mate, but $200US is the bottom line. I think that's a reasonable price for a nice low D although I'd entertain a swap for a tunable high D Overton.
Best,
Paul

Overtons for sale
To fund a new instrument purchase, I'm forced to sell off a few bits. First up are two Overtons, a tunable low D made by Bernard Overton that's about six or seven years old and a fixed-pitch (non-tunable) low G made by Colin Goldie that's probably ten years old. No issues with either one and both ar...
