Much like myself. I had the book years ago but only came across the cassette about 20 years later - total random find in a record shop in Dublin.

Re: Rudall for auction

Looks like there's a bit of a nick out the blowing edge of the embouchure - I wonder would that be easy to fix?

Tutor For The Feadóg Stáin

Long out of print, and surpassed by much better tutors available today, but I thought this oldie from Comhaltas in 1971 might be of interest to some.

I've scanned the book into a PDF, and recorded each side of the cassette to mp3.

You can download it all here.

Re: Boehm Flute Question: Plateau keys v open-hole keys

You can always get plugs for open-hole keys, so they play like plateau keys. You can't do the opposite.

I was sighing because it's both beautiful and (for me) unobtainable.

Re: CP: New Pratten flute design!

These look very pretty, and $550 is a great price-point. Can you tell me the weight? I'd be very interested in one of these as a backpacking flute. Any idea when they might be available for order?

Re: Rudall and Carte Cocus flute problem

If the pads aren't sealing, they can't possibly know that it's correctly regulated. So getting the pads to seal is likely not the end of your woes. Either send it back or get a refund and send it elsewhere.

Re: Ideas for Flute Case

Another option is modify a flute case for modern orchestral flutes. I use these Gator cases: http://www.gatorcases.com/p/115179-1071/gc-flute-b-c You need to pull out the existing lining, which is of course for Boehm-style flutes, and replace it with foam cut to shape for your flute. You can reuse t...

My favorite note

My main playing flute at the moment is keyless, but playing my Potter 8-key the other day, I was reminded of my favorite note. It's C in the first octave, but fingered as XOX XXX with the C foot joint keys. It's basically the octave of low C. It's not a terribly useful note because it sounds so diff...

Re: Little Beat frequencies

If I understand you correctly, then I think I'm familiar with the thing you're describing. I usually find it most pronounced on the F# of unfamiliar flutes. Does it happen on all notes, or just certain ones? In my experience it's generally a product of trying to play one flute the way you play anoth...

Re: Lazy Fingering

I generally leave R3 down for notes above F#. I did this when I played whistle as a child, and when I took up the flute. I don't know if I copied it from somewhere or came up with it myself, but I've never considered it lazy, or a fault. I can as easily use R4, but I do find that this causes some co...

I think these must be the same "experts" who installed our toilet. I expect the results are similar. :P

Very nice indeed! The wee flag's a nice touch. Did you start out with a tube, or did you ream it? (Is that the right term when it's metal?)
